Default how do you make second day hair shiny but not greas

I am one of the rare ones who can get second day hair by spraying water on it BUT it is not shiny looking like first day hair. Does anyone here have any product recommendations to make second day hair look more shiny and polished?

Olive oil, coconut oil or castor oil work great for me. I dip the tip of my finger in the jar/bottle . I read somewhere that the amount of oil on the finger tip works best as a serum.. This does not make my hair greasy and it adds shine as well . Leave in sprays don't add shine unless it has silicones, but that is an absolute no-no for me.

Thanks, I'll try it. Hopefully it will work better for me than jojoba oil. That left my hair greasy and sloppy looking.

On a regular pillow case, not silk. Does silk help?

Silk/satin does help!

Product-wise I'd suggest SM Elixir and/or shine and hold spray.

I also do the oil rubbed into palm/fingers and smooth the frizzy or dull areas with it. (I smooth the crown, and then I sort of twirl down each curl that needs some attention.)

Do you seal your hair with anything when wet? That helps maintain the shine for me.

So, my problem is my hair is shiny on 2nd day, and not the first! What gives?

I have the same problem! Idk why it's like that either. My hair didn't used to be like that, but since I've cut it from BSL to shoulder length, I like my second and third day hair better. Or maybe it's the weather change? Idk but I wish someone knew the answer to this question!

Hmm... Maybe it has to do with the natural oils being replenished the 2nd day?

Or maybe the gel cast makes it "hazy" on day 1, but by day 2 that's more broken down?

This is what I'm thinking, the natural oils. It's so frustrating! I cant go without wetting my hair, 2nd day hair is always better though, elusive. Once a week, maybe.

Maybe you need to start sealing? Or adding some oil to your gel?

What are you cleansing with? And how often?

I cleanse with TJ's Tea tree tingle shampoo, like once, sometimes twice a week, mostly just once a week.
I seal with Grape seed oil after conditioning.

Not sure what's in that, but I'm assuming its a low-poo!

You could add a few drops of oil to the poo to help keep it from stripping.

I'm assuming you do a RO, but what about a LI?

Have you sealed with anything besides GSO? Maybe a slightly richer oil?

And you can try a few drops of oil in your gel, too.

I tried evoo but that was too heavy. Weighed everything down. I'll try adding the gso to the shampoo. Any recs for my next shampoo? Conditioner?
Most the time I co wash with tresemee, the green one, and condition with the trader joes tea tree tingle conditioner. I'm thinking I need to try some protein. My tresemee is almost gone so I'm thinking the suave coconut?

I like suave coconut, I also like Vo5 Shea Cashmere! I've heard great things about Giovani Smooth as Silk, too.

For my low poo, I alternate between Shea Moisture Retention, and Organix Shea. (The second one is a little stronger than the first.). I've also heard good things about Renpure - the red bottle.

As for the EVOO, it's WAY to heavy for me to leave in my hair, but I can mix it with a poo or a RO, even. So if you've not tried that yet, it might be worth a shot.

I really love the Shea Moisture line!! Though I do still have to use a slightly stronger low poo at times, and I do still clarify once a month or so.

Was thinking something similar. The natural oil/sebum probably spreads or "travels" down each hair shaft w/the help of time and gravity.

Straight or slightly wavy hair tends to get oilier more quickly after a wash, maybe because it's easier for the sebum to move down a straighter shaft that has very little bend to it. I suppose angle of hair would matter too. If it tends to grow "up" rather than down (I suppose) it could make it hard or impossible for the spread of sebum (unless the hair is manipulated into a downward position). Enter natural oils to compensate.

I use that same low poo. I always prepoo with EVOO to offset any dryness.

I'm not exactly sure what "pre-poo" means...
Is it wetting the hair and wiping a few drops in? Scrunching in? Do you add it to conditioner? Sorry, I'm still so new at this.

I've had luck with the method where you spritz hair, add conditioner, wait for 15-30 mins then wash. I just don't always have the mind and time with two toddlers running this joint.

Pre-pooing means coating your hair with oil (some people use conditioner instead of oil) before washing it. The procedure will prevent your hair from hygral fatigue, and for some it also makes their hair shinier and softer after washing
(+ if you use poos, it will prevent your hair from beeing overly stripped,by preventing the poo to enter your hair shaft)

Its pretty simple, take a (virgin/cold pressed) oil that you like , divide your hair in sections, now start apllying the oil by sections through your hair - you may want to start at your scalp and run your hands down to your ends. Massage your scalp with the oil while pre-pooing, as this will activate growth and also helps to loosen some dirt, making washing afterwards a bit easier.

Some girls like to detangle their hair during the pre poo process and leave it over night...i personally just pre poo about an hour before showering, put a heat cap on, and prefer to detangle with conditioner under the shower..

you need to experiment a bit and find the way that works best for you

I HEAR YOU WITH THE TWO TODDLERS!!! (Twin 2yr old boys)

Even if you just put oil or condish on while the shower is warming up and you are gathering your stuff - those few minutes are even helpful.

I'll sometimes do it at night, braid my hair back, and then it's ready to go for washing in the morning.

Same thing with overnight treatments - I can wash after the boys are in bed, throw a bag and cap over it, go to sleep, get up and rinse it out and style before the boys get up.

EVERYTHING has to be done around the boys. Lol!!
