New to CG and...tricked into cones?

I am new to CG (been doing it since Christmas--or at least thought I was) with AMAZING results immediately Because all of the ingredients were overwhelming/confusing to me when I first started, I looked at some blogs that had lists of CG friendly products and bought based off of those lists.

Now that I'm beginning to understand the ingredients better I looked again at the back of the products I bought-- Organix Repairing Awapuhi Ginger Shampoo and Fructise Tripple Nutrition Conditioner. Both were on several "CG safe" lists, and now I'm realizing that BOTH have Dimethicone!

Well, now I'm REALLY confused. Is there some reason I don't know about that these are CG approved or were they mistakenly on the lists? And furthermore, my hair has been doing AMAZING using these products with Dimethicone. I thought my hair looked great because I did away with the 'cones, etc. etc. Now I'm wondering, is Dimethicone actually GOOD for some people? And if not, why does my hair look so good all of the sudden!?

FYI- I have 3a/3b porous hair, seems to really like protein.

Unless they changed the formulation again, GFTN doesn't have dimethicone. It does have amodimethicone, which is a non-water soluble cone but doesn't build up the way dimethicone does. I've never used the Organix products, so I can't speak to the ingredients.
No two heads of hair are the same and for every person who gets amazing hair from CG there's someone else with amazing hair who doesn't follow CG. It all comes down to learning what does and doesn't work for your hair.

What Corinna said!! Lol!

Cones are not the devil. Some people have major issues with them, some can use a couple cones but have problems with other cones, and some people cones are a must!

If you do use them, you can still use sulfate free poo, it just must have a a surficant like coco-betaine. And you can still apply CG principles, like shampooing less often, being sure you apply plenty of moisture, etc. In fact if you use cones, you probably don't need to shampoo it out more than once or twice a week. As long as the cones get removed ad moisture gets back in, you're fine. Some people even find cones help seal moisture in for them.

GFTN was reformulated to add the a-cone a few months ago. We were all pretty mad.

Also, if the dimethicone had "peg" and perhaps a number before it, it's modified to be water soluble.

Many of us are mod-CG, and don't follow the "rules" as strictly. (True CGers do not use poo at all, and steer clear of cones.) I don't use cones myself, but I may start throwing some back into the mix to see how my hair likes it. Corinna uses cones in her stylers but not in poo or condish.

Some people really like a-cone bc as Corrina said, it does not build up, and because it targets damaged areas. It's supposed to be one of the best conditioning agents around.

The only REAL rule is to go with what works for you!!
