So I just learned there's dimethicone in my face wash

Isn't that weird? Also mineral oil and glycerin. I was all "that's funny". Now I'm wondering how many other skin products I use have these ingredients in them or if this is rare. I think I'm going to switch face washes though because my hair has a tendency to get in my face. I used to use a gentle organic soap bar from Whole Foods but then someone gave me this face wash as a gift. It's called "Soft & Soothed Gentle cleanser" by Boots no. 7. Thoughtful of them because I do have dry skin but if silicones aren't good for the scalp they're not good for the face either. It's probably an illusion of moisture. So head's up to CG girls when it comes to skin care products.
Hm, I personally don't see why silicones should also be necessarily bad for the skin when they're bad for the hair.

And yes, hair and body products have VERY similar ingredients. It's always been like that. I have some body soaps which I could perfectly use as regular shampoos if I wanted (but I don't use sulfates of course).

And my dad has a 'shampoo & body soap in 1'. It's both in one product.

Of course, companies want to make as much as money as possible, so they have been telling the world that it HAS to use different products for everything, while in fact, they COULD just always make products that can be used as shampoo AND body wash, like the product my dad has...

At hip length, going for mid-thigh!

Skin is constantly shedding, so there is no potential for buildup, which is one of the reasons it can be seen as bad for hair. Not using silicones has nothing to do with your scalp, and everything to do with the hair itself. Hair is dead. There is no renewal process within the strand itself, which can allow silicone to build up. Silicones are used in skin care products to help the skin retain moisture, and they're actually very good for that. I have horrible eczema on my hands and the best lotion I've found uses dimethicone as its active ingredient.

Yep! What Corinna said! Lol!!

Wanted to add that silicones are also used to help the product to be able to come out of the packaging.

This is especially true with hairspray and the like because of the nozzle, but can be true of other products (creams, gels, etc) that are thicker.

If the cone is listed as one of the last few ingredients, it's likely that is why and that there's not really enough to cause any build up issues. (That all came from my deva stylist!)

Also, the likelihood of cones transferring from your face to your hair is probably not very high.

So I don't think you NEED to change face washes if you are happy with what you've been using!

See I knew this was the place to turn to for answers. Forget the dermatologist and the cosmetologist, I have a whole bunch of skin/hair experts at my fingertips!

Yes, I figured silicone might be used to make the product feel smoother and slipperier. I just didn't like the idea of a plastic derivative on my skin since I was always very gung-ho about using simpler and organic products for skincare. Not my hair too much because like people said hair is dead. Now that I'm particular about both, but I don't mind this facewash overall so now I'm going to use it up!
Well, certainly if a dr tells you to stop, then stop!

And I don't claim to be any type of expert! I just share what I've experienced and what I've learned or been told by other people in the know!

I can understand not wanting that on your face, and of course do whatever makes you most comfortable.

I have been using Cetaphyl gentle forever, but now I'm considering trying this oil cleansing thing... I find it intriguing, and it's cheap and organic. (And cheap - did I mention cheap? Lol!)

But like you I always feel this need to finish up the stuff I already have!

jas, what is the name of the cheap organic cleanser?
i also used to use cetaphil gentle cleanser, the liquid, and loved it. to save money i switched to the cetaphil gentle bars (i buy them in a economy pack at target, so even cheaper), and they are also decent. but, if there is something as cheap and better????

Well, I'll often see a generic version of Cetaphyl at the store that I'll buy instead (Walgreens and/or Walmart).

What I was referring to was the oil cleansing method. In it you use oil to clean your face. No soap, nothing but pure oil and a wash cloth.

You can google more info for specifics, but basically you mix castor oil with another oil, apply, wipe it clean with a wet wash clothe, and that's it.

People are swearing by it, but I'm still on the fence about trying it.

No, I refuse to listen to the doctor, it's all up to you gals. JK.

Hooray for finishing up what we've purchased. I hate things going to waste even if it's a gift I'm not so keen on. I'm just as green in that area I suppose.

I have never heard of this oil only cleansing but I guess it makes sense. I have used coconut oil to remove mascara and eye shadow for years since most makeup removers really sting my sensitive skin. I also use jojoba oil at night instead of a moisturizer or night cream that is probably loaded with preservatives, chemicals and other icky stuff. It makes my skin happy and soft. If oil cleansing winds up working for you let me know. I might look into it.
There are a couple threads on here, even, but there are a ton of blogs and such. There is even a www.oilcleansingmethod.com - I believe it's that straight forward of an address. Let me know if you try it! I keep waffling on it.
