Default When Do You Use a Protein Conditioner?

Hello All!

I'm having a big problem with my hair breaking since after getting it dyed a few months ago. There was a big difference after using the Aphogee last month but I'm still finding hair all over my bathroom floor. My hair appointment for a trim is set next week but I did read up on the protein test and it indicated I needed more protein. I wanted to know from those who has fine hair, or color treated hair, or who need to use some kind of protein condition more than the average person....

1. How often do you deep condition with Protein? (once a week, every 2 wks, etc.)

2. What type of protein conditioner do you use?

3. For those of you who have experienced severe breakage, how many times a month did you use the a Protein Treatment (Aphogee or another) until the breakage lessened?

4. Do you follow up with a moisturizing conditioner? If so, what do you use?

I have fine hair and I use a small shot of protein in my rinse out daily. (Check out my sig) However, I do not use any protein in my cleansers or leave ins. Please consider, I do not color and my hair resents most proteins and pseudo proteins, except keratin and silk.. Hope this helps

I found myself having the same problem except my hair wasn't color treated. However I do a protein treatment 1 a week as well as a deep condition which has protein elements in it. along with the two I make sure to do some form of an oil treatment and together they have done wonders for my hair! I hope this helps.

My hair has yet to meet a protein it doesn't like. I have fine hair that has been colored. I use protein pretty much daily- cleansers, conditioners, styling products- at least one of my products has protein, usually more than one. I don't do protein treatments nearly as often as I should, but I was able to do them weekly without any signs of too much protein.

I'm another one whose hair has never met a protein it didn't like. I do at least one PT a week and use a lot of products with protein--rinse out, stylers, protein spray, etc. I even use some of the "milder" PTs as leave ins--Moezke Carrot Protein Mask, SSI Okra, CJ Curl Fix, SS Protein Repair.

I use really rich products on a daily basis and moisturizing PTs (my favorite is CJ Repair Me), so don't have to DT after a PT.

It sounds like your hair could use a lot of TLC, so I'd consider frequent PTs and DTs.

Default Yes, Yes, Yes! :happy6:

Thank you for responding ladies. It feels great that I'm not alone on wanting and needing protein. There was actually a time when I thought I was protein sensitive, way before understanding my hair texture, porosity, density, etc.

I go in to the Salon next week for a trim and I know they're gonna have to take off alot but at least I'll be able to move forward with healthy hair. What I do hate is anytime I go in to a Salon and tell them to cut off ALL the damage ends, they talk me out of it and scare me of how short my hair will be if they do. Not this time.

Applying protein conditioner will be added to my weekly hair regimen for now on. Oh, and thanks for sharing the protein conditioner brands you all use too. Taking notes.

I also use protein almost daily. Another moisturizing protein conditioner to consider is ION effective care. Some use it as a PT but I use it as an RO. Can be found at Sally's
