The last two years i'v grown my 3b curls from my chin, to my elbows, because I was a self harmer. But now, I'm seven months clean, and I want to cut my hair and donate it, and get my hair back to where I like it (My collar bones) But i'm scared that people will be able to see the scars. Any support, or good thoughts is very very very welcome .

Hay Shahnal Congratulations on overcoming that! It's very difficult to do.

Most of the time people won't notice or pay that much attention. We are all so focused on ourselves that we don't always register what we see in others (except of course for their curls!)

Anyway, I see nothing wrong with a white lie if someone asks and if you prefer not to discuss it. Where are your scars located? For example, if it's near your throat you could say its from thryoid surgery.

I hope your life continues to be easier for you so that you don't fall back on that pattern. The very best of luck and may your new hairstyle be gorgeous.

i agree with curlypearl, it's no one's business. ahd i also doubt people will notice and say something. most will only notice your curls. and, scars do fade over time. have your tried mederma on them?
and congratulations on overcoming such a problem! you should feel pride, not embarrassment.

I have a few scars of my own, but they are VERY visible. So I can't cover them up. And lies only go so far. I've tried the cat story... Just getting hurt over time and the scars remain. The tales work for some, but not all believe your stories.

Most of the time I just change the subject. They wanna pry, but I wiggle out of it.

I have no hair advice, but congrats on the recovery. I know better than most that it is not easy. (((HUGS)))
