Products from Sephora comparable to Deva Curl?
I was given a $75 gift card to Sephora for Christmas. Normally I shop at Ulta because they sell DevaCurl products. I use ArcAngel and Set it Free everyday. Sephora doesn't carry Deva curl but they seem to have Ouidad, Bumble & Bumble, and Carol's Daughter (which are the ones that seem most relevant).
I'm a 3a hair type and I wondered if anyone has tried any of the kinds I listed and could compare/contrast with DevaCurl and recommend something? I don't want to be wasteful and buy ones I won't use.
Thanks SO much for any help you can offer!
Personally I prefer Ouidad's products because they are more concentrated, and they seem to "understand" my hair. However, not all of them at CG Friendly, so you'll want to double check the ingredients. I love Ouidad's Co-wash, and Ouidad's new Whipped Curls Moisturizer is fantastic!
Here are the ingredients:
Water/Aqua/Eau, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Behentrimonium Chloride, Cetyl Esters, Polyquaternium-37, Lanolin, Hydrogenated Olive Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Cocodimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolyzed Keratin, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil Unsaponifiables, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Panthenyl Hydroxypropyl Steardimonium Chloride, Amodimethicone, Hydroxyethyl Urea, Citric Acid, Tetrasodium EDTA, Ceteareth-20, Lauryl Glucoside, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, PPG-26-Buteth-26, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Benzophenone-4, Trideceth-12, Cetrimonium Chloride, Butylene Glycol, Isopropyl Alcohol, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, DMDM Hydantoin, Triethanolamine, Benzyl Salicylate, Fragrance/Parfum
The Tress Effects Styling Gel is CG friendly, and, for me it has a longer lasting less crunchy hold than Deva's - even the newest one.
When I was in Nashville last month I went to Sephora for the first time. Then I saw their hair product selection and was less excited. I can't do silicones. They actually gave me several samples of the CD Monoi shampoo and conditioner which I gave away because I'm not a CD fan. They had one line that seemed like good ingredients but was super expensive. I forget the name. Anyway, I spent my $65 on makeup including two different mascaras. One daytime look. One nighttime look. Love them both. I think the nighttime is called "Yes, they're real."
i use both ouidad & devacurl products...
I want to assume you are on the curly girl method and avoid silicones since you use deva? forgive me if i am wrong on that.
Ouidad's whole line is not curly girl method approved so just be careful...
too bad sephora doesn't carry the ouidad co-wash because it is fantastic (and also CG approved)
i suggest trying the ouidad 12 minute deep treatment or the new omega treatment from their salon series line (both CG approved). they give great results.
The omega treatment makes my colored hair soo shiny & defined every time I use it!!
the 12 minute deep treatment is a protein treatment. it restores the bounce to my hair. if u use this, it's critical to follow up with a moisturizing conditioner while allowing hair to cool or your hair might feel a bit stiff from the protein and you won't like it.
the ouidad botanical boost is a very nice refresher spray and also CG approved.
if you aren't on CG- check out their hydrafusion cream. it says for tighter curls but that stuff is a miracle on any hair! i used it all the time before going CG
I also have 3a hair by the way.
I have been wanting to try the Bumble and Bumble Creme de Coco conditioner. It is CG friendly and looks like quality ingredients. The good thing is you can ask for a sample of anything and you can also return anything you don't like there. A lot of people are not familiar with their policies. There is no reason to feel stuck with anything you are not satisfied with from Sephora.
