Question about 2nd hair & routine on days between washes
Hi,
I don't get good 2nd day hair right now, but it could have something to do with my routine (or lack thereof) between co wash days. I have read that some curlies spray with water or a mix of things. How wet do you get your hair if you spray? I read some use products and scrunch it in, but when I do that, I get higher frizz. I made a spray I want to try out of water, TNNM, and HESMU gel, but not sure how saturated I should make my hair. |
I have 4a hair, mid neck length if stretched. I Cowash 2x a week and refresh in the in between days with a spray bottle filled with water and sometimes 1/2 water 1/2 aloe Vera juice. I spray may 4 to 8 tbsp worth to the point my hair is saturated and "shakeable" but short of being dripping wet. I let water absorb in hair for a minute or so then shake hair to loosen hair. I never use a comb or brush, nor do I touch hair. But sometimes you can add a bit more gels to the ends. I use flaxseed gel.

Avoid touching your refreshed hair. Rely on the shake routine to put your curls back into place. May minimize frizz. Or at least wait till hair is dry.

Get snoody! lol Seriously the snood (elongated hair net-think 30's pinup) gives me 2nd & 3rd day hair. Like you I cannot refresh w/water or any product combo - I've tried them all w/the same result frizzy, gunky, dull, & sometimes matted hair.
The snood at night allows the hair to stay in more natural position (not crushed like the bonnets or stretched by pineappling) and kind of supports the curl/wave so the ends stay curved & NO FRIZZ! Just shake out the next day. For the shower I flip hair upside down & slide plastic shopping bag over gently twist is front & secure w/metal duck bill clips. The bit of steam perks up the texture too. I've tried using the shower caps and they just squash my hair like bonnets do. Not the most attractive solution to 2nd day hair..but it works! |
For me personally the key to second day and occasionally third day hair is do do the pineapple method at night. Wrapping my hair helps a lot and when I get up all I have to do is kind of fluff out my hair and shake my head around to get my curls to separate and unflatten. When I use water alone to refresh it does nothing my dampen my hair without making my curls look any better. If I need to reform some of my curls I use the Shea Moistures curl enhancing smoothie and then kind of twist the curl around my finger for a bit.

I agree with Ericachristina, I get up to 4th day hair. and I do the finger twirl/smooth conditioner on each curl(or bunch of curls) to smooth down frizz, just water does nothing to my hair and I cant scrunch in products on 2nd day hair-results in more frizzes Hope that helps |
