Default Figured out how to get second day hair with kinky curly...

Finger combing! I could never do that before because my fingers snagged between the curls which caused them to break and create less defined hair and frizz. It would also make my poor tangle prone hair even worse. But this time I rewet my hair with a spray bottle beforehand and it was like magic. My hair was manageable and had decent slip even though it wasn't sopping wet and full of conditioner. This probably won't work for everybody but for me it was a dream come true. I worked through my hair very gently of course, but I didn't lose any more than three or four hairs. Then I took a little more (diluted) curling custard to apply to areas that needed it. Then I scrunched up and to the sides. It reactivated the product and my hair looks awesome. Not as curly as day one hair (as per usual) but for the first time it looks not just beach wavy but styled wavy. I'm really digging it.

So I just have to say. . .

Dear Kinky Curly & Co.,

Your products are amazing. Please never stop making them. You are my true HG styling line and I love you so very, very much.

Xs and Os,
Dusalocks

Dusalocks- which KC products in particular do you use? Knot today only or also the curling custard?

Both! For first day I use two quarters' size of knot today on my dripping wet hair (but it is long and thick) then I squeeze out excess water with a MF towel and distribute my curling custard by smoothing on and scrunching up. But I only used a little bit of the custard to achieve second day hair. I wish kinky curly would come out with a curl cream or something because I would try that too. But the custard kind of already is a weird gel cream hybrid. I also never get crunch with it if I use the right amount. I've also recently discovered I don't have to SOTC with kinky curly because it releases naturally throughout the day. Oh, and I forgot to mention my type and properties. I'm 3A, coarse (to medium) hair, high porosity and low elasticity so again this may not work for other hair types with tighter curls or finer hair for all I know. But they could always try simply rewetting and rescrunching which is how I sometimes achieved second day hair with other gels.

I like KCCC too. A little goes a long way - bought my very first jar over a year ago and it's I've only used about 50%. My only complaint is that it's so moisturizing that my hair takes FOREVER to dry when I use it.

A little does go a long way. I've been using it 4-5 times a week since I bought it in early December and I've still got 70% left in my jar. And it is very moisturizing which is why I think I can never achieve 3B type curls with it. I did, however, resusitate my 3A curls with it today and got 3A hair twice in a row. Another first for kinky curly. I'm going to have to write them another love letter.

Here's the thing though: other people complain kinky curly takes a long time to dry but with me my hair is dry in an hour and a half, never even two, and I do have thick hair that is coarse. I think the reason may be because my hair is overly porous so moisture leaves it more quickly. . . ? Since moisture leaves my hair quickly, it dries faster even though it is not fine and my density is probably medium to high. I often have to rewet my roots after styling when I get out of the shower because they dry so fast! It's like I'm racing the clock when I style. Hence I've learned to style quickly. My hair confuses me but oh well. At least kinky curly is good to it.

Yeah, seems people with very high OR very low porosity can have their hair dry super fast. Dusa, I envy your "affliction" of super drying hair ... Though I love what I have, I would like for my hair to dry a little faster. Anyway, I'm with you: grateful for KCCC

I have NEVER tried KCCC but have heard such wonderful things about it. I have a feeling it will work wonders on my hair. I AM GOING TO BUY IT! This post just pushed me forward to it!

I think our hair properties sound similar except my hair is only med. density. It used to be more, but alas....

Anyway, I am going to try KCCC again - maybe with a little Knot Today which I sort of gave up on the last time I tried it, but couldn't bear to throw it out, so here goes! Glad you posted.

this post was actually a while ago. either my hair has gotten curlier since or ive just plain perfected my technique for refreshing because now my second and third day hair is curlier than first. third day hair especially. i dont always use KCCC to reactivate the curls now--but i almost always use it still on first day hair to set the curls. i credit whatever slip i have and soft shiny hair on second and third day to KC products. they're a great foundation. i still havnt found anything to compare to KCCC yet. im eager to try uncle funkys curly magic though.

Oh except FSG--that is the closest I can get to KCCC even though it doesnt have as much hold. With KCCC a little goes a long way with hold. With FSG I need a ton so I'm experimenting wtih my recipe

You've got me interested in this stuff.
I've been doing well with my Garnier Pure Clean gel used with leave-in conditioner but maybe I need to try these products.

Gotta love Kinky Curly! I too recently found out how to use it. Yes a little does go a long way. I remember using to much of the KCCC and my curls were hard! Felt like I was wearing a helmet!! Once mastered I knew this would work wonders.

I used the kinky Curly line yesterday and just re-wet it today with my lavender water & AVJ spritz. Amazing!
