help?

I'm new to this site, I've seen it before but never really cared for it, until now when I saw it was so informative about curly hair! I've been curly for almost 7 years now and I'm 19 years old, my curls before were voluminous and really defined, I was a 3c NOW I'm a 3b I don't really mind it since I know hair can change. the only thing that gets me is that it used to be more voluminous but I have certain tricks to get over that. But a couple months back I went to get a haircut (I hadn't had a hair cut for almost a year and a half) and the stylist told me that my hair looked dry and damaged ( I was also going to get my hair straighten since it was a special occasion) since my ethnicity doesn't really understand curly hair since to them straight is beautiful I brushed it off.. then a day ago I was talking to my cousin and she told me that my hair did look dry.. and I thought it was just natural fizziness. and I was looking at my hair and it does look dry. I only co-wash, I rinse my hair with very cold water to help the cuticles I feel as if I'm doing the right things yet my hair is rebelling against me.. what can I do? PLEASE help! what can I do to help my hair look its best.. because it feels smooth it just look dry.. could it be because of protein? what to do if it that is the problem? what are some good products to try?

I’m not sure what your hair properties are..But I would first start by doing a clarifying treatment to your hair...And then see how your hair feels after to determine if you need moisture or protein...I usually say start with moisture first b/c its easier to deal with o/c hair…If you hair feels limp and is frizzy you could try a light PT…But start with a clarification treatment, I have hard water and can feel build up producing on my hair…I think eventually everyone will need to clarify at some point in time…I know I read a lot about people sealing their hair with oil…you could read some posts about that..Not sure what your weather is like, but most people do seal with oil in the winter..Hope some of this helps…good luck to youJ

ok I understood some of the things you told me, but what do you mean PT or clarifying like using a shampoo with sulfate to cleanse my hair? because if its that when I was my hair (not co-wash) I use a shampoo with sulfate. and what do you mean by pt? thank you so much for responding im going to try the hot oil intense treatment just incase!

PT is protein treatment...and clarifying is not with a sulfate shampoo...I didnt know this either the first time someone told me...its a sulfate free clear shampoo...example that I know of are purell, giovanni triple tea tree shampoo (I believe you can get this at walmart, target, and publix even)....There are others at places like whole foods or can order from online...Also make sure all the products you are using dose not contain silicone in them...And after you clarify, try a deep conditioner treatment...leaving on for 10-30mins...

yea I actually did the oil deep conditioning and it worked wonders! my hair feels more moisturized, I guess it was just missing a little bit of love! thank you so much for your insight and helping me out I was actually looking for sulfate free and alcohol free shampoos in the drug store but couldn't find one since I only do my hair every 2 weeks and stuff I'm guessing it wont do to much damage! do you have any suggestion?

Thats AWESOME! !!im glad it worked...I use suave naturals conditioner. ..the coconut one...and for "shampoo" you could get Giovanni triple tea tree treament...I think that is the full name...lol...or Giovanni 50:50...I use both of those...ive read posts about the "yes to" line..but just check to make sure there is no silicone in it...you may want to get a deep conditioner. ..if u have a sally's the GVP deep conditioner have ton of raves abouit it...or Curl Junkie which is online is amazing...
