Deva Cuts??? Before/After

I'm finally getting my first curly/dry haircut this Thursday. I'm excited but at the same time nervous since I don't want to get a bad cut. My stylist is suppose to be a deva cut specialist. Has anyone gotten a haircut using this method? How was your experience and if you can share before/after pics? I would like to get an idea of what I'm getting myself into LOL thanks :)

I'm bumping this because I would like to see such a thread too.

i don't have any before pics since i've been getting a deva cut (and, i have to say, by one of the best deva stylists, he used to work at devachan and do training) since 2006. my photo is a deva cut, i do keep my hair on the short side by preference, but the idea is there.

also, you can go onto livecurlylivefree.com and click on the 'photo gallery' as the woman whose site it is, tiffany, aka 'struttswife' on nc, is a curly stylist who specializes in deva cuts. she has before and after photos.

and, it all depends on the stylist who cuts your hair. just because they've been taught how to cut a curl, does not translate into how to cut the entire head, etc.....

and, wasn't there a thread recently by a stylist who said deva is changing how they cut hair? no longer curl by curl? but she never replied to queries about what they specified instead.

Tnx for the site I will take a look tho I wanted to see pics that weren't chosen by a stylist since they will always post their best lol. I did read that too a new technique that involved elevation not sure of it either. I have an appt tomorrow for a deva cut in Ft. Lauderdale. I will post pics n share my experience. Hope more chime in n send pics of their next deva cut :D

Me, after Deva cut:

This pic was after I got it cut by the owner--

This pic below was over a year later, by another staffer at the same salon. I liked this better and plan to go see her again if I can ever get some money.

Most recent pic below, after cowashing and airdrying at my parent's house with their EXTREMELY hard water....so the curls are very tight and lots of root volume.

I had not gotten it cut any more since the pic above it.

I was surprised to see how much of the original layering/shaping was still evident in this pic.....compared with the one above it.

The hell is wrong with my posts??!!!

ETA: Never mind, I see the pics uploaded correctly. Apologies in advance if they are huge, I'm not sure how/if I can fix it from my phone :(

I posted my before/after pictures as a separate thread.

I am so happy with the results and I will never get a normal haircut again. This is the first stylist that hasn't cut off too much hair. It has been about 3 weeks and it is growing out beautifully.

Jas76 01-24-2013 08:55 AM

Good luck!!

And your curls are lovely - so even all over! Must be nice!!

longlivecurls 01-24-2013 07:06 PM

Tnx for the luck I think it worked lol...finally got my cut and I loved it my hair is shaped without the pyramid effect. My stylist was super nice and gave me tips on how to style my hair. I definitely learned new things they do try and sell you the deva products but you don't feel obligated to buy them which I liked. I would like to try them in the future tho they smell great and left my hair soft. I definitely think my hair got a little bouncier since all the dry ends were cut off. Next time I need a cut I know where I'm going n will recommend him to anyone in the Dade/Broward area who's looking for a devacut. Big plus he's been doing it since 06 n was the first to train in that method in SFL.

PS: Jas tnx for the hair compliment 😊

Jas76 01-24-2013 08:21 PM

Nice! I'm tempted to splurge for another devacut at some point! ;)

longlivecurls 01-24-2013 09:16 PM

It is a lil pricey but I feel like you won't need another one anytime soon at least I know I won't lol best part for me is that it gives your hair shape with your curls. Can't wait to see how it'll hold up tomorrow crossing my fingers.

rbb 01-25-2013 05:48 AM

looks really good! enjoy it!

longlivecurls 01-25-2013 08:51 AM

Tnx rbb I sure will ;)

anonymous_133347 01-25-2013 09:55 PM

You're like a walking advertisement for devacuts now. Very nice.

longlivecurls 01-26-2013 12:53 PM

^ sounds like it lol but I am definitely happy I did it. I want to see how it'll look using my products and methods.

Jas76 01-26-2013 01:38 PM

Let us know how self-styling it goes!!
