Why does 4b forum get neglected

This makes me so annoyed. 4bc hairtype struggle the most with finding products that work for their hair yet i rarely see response or post on there. What i love about the phone app is it sorts threads by topics not hair type so you see more response in different forums now but i still see post on 4b get little to noo response.

I just replied to a girl whose post didn't do well on the 4b forum so she repost on 4a (i believe 4a do a better job @ responses) the sad part is she sounded like she was in desperate need of advice .

Its better to describe the characteristics of the hair than to classify the number and letter. All of my 3 yrs of being natural i have never heard someone identify their hair without adding characteristics to it like "its porous,or fine, dense, protein sensitive etcs."

They should just integrate 4a and 4b forum. hair typing to specific letter takes the focus out of the point of this entire site which is loving and caring for your hair.

Jessiebanana 01-23-2013 06:07 AM

I can't speak for that forum in particular, but I prefer the general discussion forum. I've met people on here whose hair reacts similar to mine who don't have the same curl type as me at all. So a hair type specific forum doesn't do much for me. I don't hang out on 3c anymore. I did when I first joined. Also there just might be less people here who are 4b...possibly because there are less naturals of that type or they might be spread out on other forums.

rmc2 01-23-2013 07:28 AM

Dee nature i hear you. I am 4a but I also check 3c and 4b, and wonder why 4b is less active, and why there is no 4c. I think like you that there should be just a
4 category. Who created the categories by the way?

kathymack 01-23-2013 07:32 AM

There have been suggestions that the "type" forums be combined--like the 2 forum. So, there would be a 2, 3 and 4 forum, but no subtypes. Hair properties really influence ingredients. The 4a forum is generally the most active forum, so it makes a lot of sense.

Jas76 01-23-2013 08:19 AM

I can see combining those categories, too.

Though the properties (porous, etc) tend to be a little quiet, too. I think most people tend to stick to the general board.

rmc2 01-23-2013 08:20 AM

I wonder who is in charge of these categories. Interesting that 4a is most active. I am a 4a.

I've been a member for 5 years and lurked for a while before I joined. The boards go through "cycles," but overall the 4a forum gets the most traffic. And it's not from all 4a hair types. I know I followed it my first few years, it's how I found out about a lot of products and techniques. I always felt that the 4a's, etc., knew the most about taking care of curly hair.

There's a new CurlTalk administrator http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlta...alk-admin.html I'd think that she's the one who is "in charge."

There are folks that think there should be lots of forums based on every little detail known about hair and others who think it should be more general. Questions on many of the forums rarely get answered, or a lot of traffic and people end up double and triple posting to get answers. I've gotten to the point that I rarely answer in forums that don't have my hair attributes, I figure out that people who ask a question there aren't looking for an answer from someone who doesn't have that particular attribute.

Hey y'all

just popping in (thanks dee-nature).

Before Gretchen left she gave me the run down of how the categories started because she knew some curltalkers would request changes. All the existing threads were asked for and vetted by the curltalk community and that's why they exist. Of course as our interests change, the threads can change.

dee-nature is absolutely right 4c people are hard pressed to find as much organized CT info as the 4a section and the general discussion thread gets a lot of play over all of course.

It's literally up to CurlTalkers as to whether we completely do away with the letter divisions and just have a Type 4. Does that means we just want a type 3? I know initially they were divided out just because of sheer numbers. Things get lost in the shuffle as it is...

I'll continue to creep around curltalk and see what y'all are saying. keep the convo going por favor!

I've only been on nc.com for the last five years, so don't know what happened previously. Last year, there was a lot of discussion about just having Type 2, Type 3 and Type 4. From what I recall, most folks were in favor. Don't know if you could do a poll or something like that.

I feel that a lot of the hair forums are extraneous. People don't get answers and end up posting questions in several forums looking for help. Don't know if there's someway to collect data what goes on and see if it's really necessary to have all of the hair forums.

I would appreciate some consolidation (type 2,3,4). Just sayin...

asianrunner 01-24-2013 06:17 PM

I also vote for consolidation of many of the forums.

I'm not sure the low response in 4b is just a matter of purposeful neglect. I post there sometimes but I prefer general and 4a because of the fast pace and I find more threads created there that peak my interest to incline me to chime in. And 4a for me isn't just a "hair" thing. It is kind of a water cooler spot. As mentioned, 4a and general have always been very open to whomever wanted to ask a question. It's not like since a person is type x they have to post their question in type x. I admit I don't visit 2, or the 3abc that much so I'm not sure of the vibe there but most regulars in 4a could not care less about hair type.

Thanks Eve. Also copied it to the Non-Hair Discussion section to make sure more people have to ability to participate. So vote everyone!!!

I'm biased: I'm partial to the diverse, colorful discussion going on in the 4a forum (It's about hair and everything else under the sun, w/people unafraid to speak up about uncomfortable things - reminds me of my New York roots), plus it's got that MEGA henna and amla thread that helped me w/my research recently ;)

I totally agree w/you Dee (and everyone else so far). I think it'd be easier to just streamline the forums into number categories and ditch the sub-categories at this point. On a selfish note, I'd benefit from just numbers because my hair doesn't even know whether it wants to be 3b or 3c :shaking2: I bet a lot of us "in-betweeners" would enjoy the simplification of numbers only forums. ... Of course, if you're in between numbers (not letters), like 3c/4a; 2b;3a, etc., you still might be going back and forth btw. 2 different forums still. Still not a perfect system, but numbers only would make it easier for a lot of us.

I'd prefer for the forums to be consolidated because I don't like bouncing back and forth from different numbers. Nevertheless, that's a great point about numbers versus letters. Hmm. . .
