Default Can I clarify weekly?

Hey everyone. I have yet another question about my hair journey. I wash my hair everyday with conditioner, but I'm noticing the scalp/roots getting greasy/oily, no matter how well I scrub with my fingers. So my question is, can I clarify weekly? I use conditioner in the shower and then hair gel when I come out, and I do this at LEAST 5 days a week. I have fine hair that gets weighed down easily so I never get second day hair and I just wash it daily instead. Anyway, can I use clarifying shampoo once a week? Lately I've been using the As I Am Curl Clarity to clarify, but once every two weeks isnt enough anymore. Or is there a Joico shampoo I can use once a week that anyone can recommend? Looking for any advice to make my roots not greasy and gross Thanks guys

Hi, sKorpio1190! I also have fine hair and co-washing alone just didn't work for me. I low-poo a few times a week. The Shea Moisture shampoos are gentle, moisturizing and smell great. Take a look at some of the product reviews: Product Search Results You'll get some good ideas about what other curlies are using and how they like them.

Yes absolutely! I "clarify" weekly too, sometimes even more, but I don't know if it should really be called clarifying or low-poo because I use very gentle shampoos. Once a month I will use a more serious clarifier that contains sulfates.

I call it clarifying cuz that's the name of the product. But it has no sulfate so I guess it qualifies as low poo? Anyway, thanks fr the input. Now I won't feel so bad about doing it. I guess my hair just needs it more than others. I'm trying my best to learn to "listen" to my hair and see what it likes, but man what a pain it is!

Everybody's scalp/hair is different. If clarifying or low-pooing or whatever it may be once a week works for you then I say do it! If you start feeling dry you can simply switch to a gentler low poo and reserve the clarifying one for once every two weeks again. Just find a balance that works for you, I say. I stopped co-washing my scalp directly because it was causing what I thought was "dry scalp" (white flakes and itching, which I never had before CG) but turned out to be product buildup, or maybe an adverse reaction to the preservative in my co-wash. Now I water wash my scalp, do a tea tree treatment once a week, and use a Shea Moisture low poo once a week as well. In basically that order since I wash my hair every other or other other day. My scalp is happy again. It was never oily or dry before CG so now that I'm leaving it alone and not putting conditioner, a product designed to penetrate and be retained, actually on my skin, there's no more trouble.

P.S. +1 on SM Low-Poo. They have no nasty preservatives and plenty of oils so it's a pleasant and mild balance of cleansing and moisture.

I clarify weekly. I say clarify because my likes like low poos with coco-betaine. My hair is fine and gets build up so easily that if I don't get all product out of my hair once a week I have dryness issues. My dcs do way better after I clarify. The moisture can get in there better it seems.

Thanks everyone. I guess I'm gonna just try different things and see what my hair likes. Sometimes it gets confusing cuz idk what to look for or what my hair "should" look like when it's happy. For example, today it was nice and soft and less frizzy, but also less curly. It feels healthier but also more wavy than before. I guess I rather have that than unhealthy curly hair. Anyway, the journey continues. My parents think I'm crazy with all the products I bring into this house lol
