what could be the drying factor in these products?
I so wanted to like the deva low poo and condish but after a while, my hair became dryer and dryer and my scalp began to itch!!
This is the low poo:
Water (Aqua,Eau), Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Glycerin, Coco-Betaine, Polyquaternium-7, PEG-75 Lanolin, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Citrus Aurentium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Extract, Melissa Officinalis Extract, Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, Achillea Millefolium Extract, Polyquaternium-10, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Propylene Glycol, Aminomethyl Propanol, Benzophenone-4, Ascorbic Acid, Diazolidinyl Urea, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Fragrance (Parfum), Red 40 (CI 16035), Yellow 5 (CI19140)
And the condsh:
Water (Aqua, Eau), Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Glycol Distearate, Cetyl Esters, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Wax, Citrus Aurentium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Extract, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Melissa Officinalis Extract, Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, Achillea Millefolium Extract, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Propylene Glycol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Ascorbic Acid, Citric Acid, Diazolidinyl Urea, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Fragrance (Parfum), Red 40 (CI 16035), Yellow 5 (CI 19140)
The only product I like is the gel.

Me too!
Darby I am having the same response to the Devacurl line. New to this site when I decided to try a change. May have to go back to my old products and do some more investigation on this site, ugh!

Preservatives those products contain:
Itchy Scalp Causes: Preservatives in Hair Products
Also it might be the protein content drying you out (as well as the glycerine) if your hair is protein sensitive. Even people who are not protein sensitive probably don't want to use protein in their penetrating products (such as conditioner) week in and week out. Not unless you're protein craving. . .I would recommend switching out to a more moisturizing conditioner that's protein free such as Tresemme Naturals to see if it makes a difference. (It's CG approved and it's much cheaper than the One Conditioner.) Also the Shea Moisture shampoos are very friendly to the scalp, I've found. They clean without irritating or stripping. If it's not enough you can always get a good clarifying shampoo and use that as needed. Rotate your conditioners if nothing else

Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Wax and Citrus Aurentium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Extract could also be the culprits. Fruits of the citrus family can be very drying. I heard from several people on the internet that they are sensitive to this, and I read on a chemist website about hair product ingredients that citrus stuff can be drying to the hair. Not everyone is sensitive to this but some people are.
I have the same with peppermint. I CAN'T use peppermint oil nor extract. It dramatically dries my hair out. Worse than sodium laureth sulfate. I don't even want to think back to the time I put it in my hair, it was disastrous. My hair hates it so bad, but for most people this ingredient doesn't give ANY problems.

I'd have trouble with the polyquats in the shampoo. I find that they coat my hair and cause frizz--even when wet. (4, 7 and 10 are really bad for me.) While I'm told that they don't build up, I need to wash with a surfactant that's stronger than coco b to remove them.
The other problem with Deva is that they've been know to change ingredients and not the labels. There was a thread a few months ago about someone having a new bottle of One C that didn't work the same as her previous bottle. They did, admittedly, do this several years ago. Don't know if you can find the threads about that--pretty contentious.

For shampoo, I use 4 tbsp aloe Vera gel mixed with 2 tbsp each of honey and apple cider vinegar. Try it out!

Totally agree with kathymack about deva changing their ingredients sometimes.
The aloe, honey, and ACV poo sounds awesome, I'm gonna try it.

Wait how much ACV? 2 tbsp? Just making sure it's 2 tbsp each:
2 tbsp honey + 2 tbsp ACV
and not 1 tbsp honey + 1 tbsp ACV.

rmc2, you mix aloe vera gel + honey + ACV plus shampoo. Or, you only use this mix to wash?...

I agree about polyquats. They build up and dry out my hair terribly.
