SM Curling Enhancing Smoothie
I think this product is jealous of all the love the souffle's thread is getting and since I own this one and not the other I thought I'd ask:
Ladies who have it and love it, how do you use it?
Styler? Leave-in? Rinse out? Deep treatment?
All four and then some? I'm using mine as a base styler but I'd like to explore. I don't love it yet, but I do like it. Help me love it please!

I like it as a rinse out and as a DT, but it never worked for me as a styler or even LI. It was too heavy on my hair (3A) and it always made it flat. This was one of the very first products i bought when I went CG last February. I still have a little left, so it goes a long way.

Marci, have you ever tried the milk? I hear it's the same but lighter?
I have fine 3a curls, too, but they love oils and lots of condish, so I thought I might give it a try. If it's too much I might be able to water it in my hand, perhaps?

Marci, about how much do you use for DT? I mixed 3 tbsp with 2 tbsp of olive oil and left it in the other night and it seemed like my hair took to it. I'm still trying to figure my hair out. According to my hair analysis results, my coarse texture shouldn't like protein, and yet I have indications of damage (from years of wearing it straight perhaps? ? ?) like high porosity and low elasticity that suggest my hair might need a little protein. And silk protein doesn't seem like a heavy duty protein based on what I've researched. I thought the smoothie was too thick for a rinse out but I'll try it now that you say it works. It does make a good restyler for me. I spray my hair damp perhaps on three day hair and add a little to areas that have gone wonky while I've slept. I really like the smell and it makes me hungry for fruit, but at the same time I prefer more adult smells. More floral or clean, less tropical. I'm still not sure I'll repurchase it (although I'm sure that's a long time away) because I prefer kinky curly custard, but the SM Smoothie does do a lot for curl formation just on its own, wet or damp. I like to put it on my extra dry hair towards the back and sides and it brings it back to life!

I do plan to give it a shot but my local Target didn't have it in stock. They were also having a buy one, get one half off deal with SM which makes me wonder if they're making room for the new products or undergoing a repackaging frenzy of some sort.

Hahaha THANKS Jas! Got me doing a midnight search on that SM milk, PJ urges must be controlled!!!! I may just give it a go when my Smoothie runs out. If your hair loves oil and condish I think you'd like the smoothie, its pretty much all oil in the ingredients. It does have some protein but my hair likes that. Oils not so much. I never tried watering the product but it sounds like it could work. It is super creamy and buttery, easy to distribute.

I tend to use about the same, a few tablespoons but I never added oil. Actually no, when I started out CG I smooshed in Smoothie, oil, gel and all kinds of stuff in my hair all at the same time. Not good! lol. I have since figured out what works, but I never got a hair analysis. I think it could just be a useful guideline rather strict rules. If the protein product seems to help, I say go for it. My hair loves protein, and is generally ok with most other "problem" ingredients. Glycerin is my enemy though, and too much aloe makes my hair tangled and brittle. Also takes forever to dry!!
So the Smoothie as a rinse out when co-washing with something else that is lighter. It would be WAY too much moisture on its own. I also love the smell!!
I am not sure that I'll repurchase it either, especially since Jas put the bug in my ear about the Milk. I don't *need* the Smoothie as a rinse out, that is just how I ended up using it because it was there. So if you have it, I say give it a try

I kind of use it as a cream. I think it helps seal in moisture for me. I rake in my leave in right after my shower in wet hair, then about a tablespoon of the smoothing. Then plop and scrunch in gel. It's a holy grail product for me. I just makes my hair consistently more awesome and gets it to retain moisture better.

Funny, I was just thinking about using it as a DT. Now I'll have to try.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but what do the directions say? What is it intended to be used as? Don't get me wrong - use it however it works for you! But I'm just wondering how the product is "supposed" to be used, by manufacturer recommendation.

Ah! It's my hair twin and my hair stalker in the same thread! I was here!
To answer the question, I love the smoothie, I'm having the best day with my curls thanks to it.

I use it as a DC/prepoo periodically. Other times, I use it as a curl enhancer/moisturizer.

It does make an excellent sealer. I forgot to mention that. On days I put it in my hair, I don't have to use jojoba. Maybe I should always use it instead. It adds extra hold and definition after all. I don't mind its glycerine content because of the oils but I guess I'll just watch out with the protein.
Houseofcurls, I have been copying you in every way save the flax seed gel. Maybe tonight. It makes sense you're Jas' hair twin because I love her hair too. You ladies make me want to try every product in your siggy and visit my colorist. Only problem is I don't know whether to go for red or highlights!

The Smoothie sucks as a curl styler for my 4a hair but excels as a deep conditioner. In fact, I think it is much better than the masque. The Souffle is a cheaper version than Kinky Kurly but the trick is to use very little of it. On my short hair (but midneck if pulled or stretched), 1 1/2 tbsp is more than enough.

I've been using it since sometime during the middle of last yr. It's one of those products that I prefer to always have on hand I use it as a leave in or just to add a little extra moisture to my hair also works really well for twistouts when you mix it with eco styler. Other than that like someone said earlier it works lovely with the souffle lol I love the way my hair feels and looks when I use the both of them and a little eco styler to define my curls.
