What is "2nd day hair" to you?

Like Tree14Likes

Ok. So do you see 2nd day hair as hair that looks good enough to wear down a 2nd day? Does it count if you washed your hair the evening before and dried/styled it, slept on it, then were able to wear it down the next day? Or is it only when you wore it all day, slept on it, and then are able to do so again the next day.

What about wearing 2nd day hair with the front pulled back? Or a ponytail?

What are your day two issues? Frizz, flatness, unevenness?

Just curious. I know I'd call today 2nd day hair, and it looks fine, as long as I pulled the front and sides back.

2nd day hair to me is something I can get up & go with. Either pulled or pinned back if I have to. If I have to re-wet & re-style, it's not 2nd day hair.

I've never gotten 2nd day hair without bunning it. Sometimes I cant even do that. My hair is far too dry and tangly once I wake up. Plus it's flat, frizzy, & wonky crooked curls if its still curly at all.
fine, thin, normal/(low?) porosity. Mod-CG. Usually I can't co-wash more than 1x a week, & sometimes I have to use T-Gel in rotation due to scalp issues.

to me, second day hair is able to be worn down... maaayyybe with a few pieces pulled back in the front, but more or less worn down. i don't mind doing a few touchups on a piece here or there, but if i have to spend more than 5 minutes, i wouldn't call it second day hair.

If it won't embarrass me in public (while worn down), it counts as second day hair.

The two consistent 2nd day hair issues I can have is 1) wonky curls where some get pulled almost straight and 2) a funky overall shape where somehow only half of my hair got flattened or blew up.

To me second day hair is when I wake up and I don't have to do anything to my curls when I have already been out the entire previous day with the same style. If I style it before bed then I don't consider the next morning second day hair since my hair hasn't really been through a first day.

I wear my hair up a lot in a cascading sort of pony tail with different levels or half up half down but to me second day hair doesn't necessarily mean leaving it down, it means that I don't have to restyle my curls and they still look great.

I can usually get second day hair but I'm really happy on the rare occasions I can achieve third day hair!

Second day hair to me is hair I can wear down fully and it'd look nice. Not flat or frizzy or uneven. In the beginning it was just that because my curls would fall to waves but still look very pretty. However I've recently been able to reproduce/reactive my curl pattern and indeed, more often than not my hair looks better on the 2nd or even the 3rd day. I know I should put it up and experiment or something but so far down is easier.

Almost forgot: I almost always do a touchup though. Takes 5 minutes.

Most of the time i straighten out the top and pull it in a low ponytail with paste and sprays to tame away flyways/frizzies.

I've found if I let my hair completely dry before bed and fix the top and pineapple, I can actually let my hair down the next day and it doesn't look bad. It's a rare thing though. And it can't be raining or humid of course.
2nd day hair is anything that means I dont have to totally rewet it to look decent.
It's very very rare here.

Interesting!!

For me I think it's wearing my hair down again the next day. At most pulling back the front and sides in some way. (Pulling back to a clip, braiding or twisting the front, etc) They are slightly looser than the rest, and since they get slept on they tend to have the most issues.

Other non-wash day hair salvages:
If my hair is still decent on the back and ends and not super tangly but still not quite good enough to wear down, I'll go low pony.

If its really bad but I don't have time to wash, etc, I'll put it in a twist or bun.

Lol! Yes, I have different non-wash day categories:
2nd day hair = ready to go when I wake up, or maybe minor touch-ups.

Ok 2nd day hair = canopy isn't great, but it's good enough to get by if I pull te sides back or braid them, etc. but leave the back down.

Pony hair = not quite good enough to pull only the sides back, but the ends are passable (when clumped together in a rubber band!)

Twist hair = pony won't work. Twisting it up, leaving the ends out, which I'll likely spritz and scrunch in the curl. The worse the hair, the less ends that are left out (length-wise)

Bun hair = hair is a mess, but I must leave the house. Lol! I might put some oil in it and braid it before bunning, or just go for a regular bun.

Oh our complex curly hair!! Lol!!

Scraggly limp curls can still look pretty, I do a twisted/pinned updo thing that takes a few minutes but looks fab. Anything so I don't have to wet my hair again lol. I also do a lot of side braids and fix up the curls around my face. Lazy bun hair goes in a scrunchy but I use the ends to cover up the elastic. I Have gotten so creative with it but for some reason i always feel my hair isn't "done" if I can't wear it down. Maybe it's a leftover of growing up Hispanic??? My grandma always calls it lazy hair
Yeah, if I have to hide jacked up looking hair in a ponytail, bun, braid, banana clip or claw clip, it's not second day hair.

To me, second day hair means it looks good when I shake it out in the morning and doesn't require hiding or a lot of work.

If you purposely wash and prepare your hair at night for the following day, then that's not really second day hair; that's just your daily hair routine.

I used to call any day after a washing+styling day a 2nd day, but it wasn't really. When I started wearing my hair curly and my hair was longer I considered my 2nd days to be the best, but that was after misting my hair and add some more product and diffuse. My hair is low poreus and with tailbone hair it was getting weight down by the water on 1st days too much to consider it nice and curly. On 2nd days styling it curly was much easier.

Nowadays, I've been NC for 1.5 years and my hair is midback (BSL?), it's much easier to get a good 1st day and 2nd day is after pineapple and rootshake and hair is still looking good.
I must add that I'll settle for slightly frizzy yet voluminous, wavy-curly hair on 2nd (and 3rd) days. After trying to make my hair as curly as possible every day for a long time, I now enjoy the fact my hair curls and waves differently every day.

I always wash my hair in the evening as it takes too dam long to dry to wash in the morning so the next day hair is first day to me, 2nd day is day after with a little water spray an leave in condish after taking out my trusty pineapple, I can get 3rd an sometimes if I'm super lazy 4th day hair this way even if i have got a little frizz halo(love that phrase!) by then
I don't think it's fair that so many of you get second day hair when I can't get good first-day hair. Stop being so greedy!

I'm wondering what it is that makes some of us have hair that looks pretty much the same for days, while others are on a "2nd day" quest? I thought maybe it was a loose-curl pattern thing, but some of you have hair that's as curly as 3b/c or 3c (And I'm guessing 4s and 2s vary in their experience w/this too). Could hair properties have anything to do w/it, I wonder? Like maybe people with finer textured hair have curls that are more easily disrupted by friction (like when sleeping), as opposed to coarser hair? Hmm.
