Default KMF Upper Management - Want to love, but...

So... I bought Kiss My Face Upper Management Gel because I am looking for a low protein, glycerin/humectant-free gel. I conditioned with Tress Naturals (as usual), used a small amount of SM Curl Milk as leave-in (as usual), and then applied the new gel.

My hair seized up and felt dry and crunchy. It's a feeling similar to my hair's reaction to certain types of proteins, which I now avoid. The gel does have Panthenol, but my research is unclear about whether this is a protein. I also read that hyaluronic acid may cause that "instant dry when wet" feeling. Can anyone offer insight on what ingredients might cause this reaction?

I didn't rinse it out because I want to see what it looks and feels like when dry. If it dries okay, I'm wondering if I need to worry about the reaction when applied. Is it really sucking all the moisture from my hair?

I really want to like this product, but it's not lookin' good.

KMFUMG Ingredients:

Water, Utrica Dioica (Nettle Leaf Extract), Calendula Officinalis, Chamomile Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Hydroxymethyl Glycinate, Yeast Extract, Panthenol, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Grapefruit Extract

Keep us posted. Sometimes hair can look a frightful mess wet and they dry into a work of art.

Well if you were looking for a humectant free product, you missed the mark.

Hyaluronic acid is a popular ingredient in topical beauty products, such as moisturizers and makeup, as well. One of the substance's features is that it draws moisture from the air and is said to hold up to 1, 000 times its weight in water.

Pathenol is a humectant.

Some people react badly on citrus fruits extracts. It can be drying for some people but not for others. I don't why. It's no problem for me, I use this gel and my hair loves it.

Btw I think yeast extract MIGHT be a protein... but I'm not sure. I know brewer's yeast is a protein!

Thanks, all. I learn something new every day! My hair looked so awful when it dried that I took another shower. Guess this product was a fail for me. I was trying to find a less expensive alternative to Aquage Moulding Mega Gel. I'll just suck it up & spend the money.

p.s. Don't know what I'd do without my fellow curlies and their knowledge. Thanks for sharing!
