I don't think it's too heavy for you because I see that you use SM products. I use a lot of really rich products, but don't use the SM products because they are too "heavy" for me--if you can understand the difference.

Some products just aren't for some hair. If you get great hair from other things, that's all that matters.

Kathymack, I agree. I can't imagine how KCKT could be too heavy for me, given the products I typically use. I just wish I knew why KCKT ruins my curls! When I use it, everything goes totally flat! This is the only product that does this. So weird.

Hmmm well it sounds like you and HoC have given it enough of a chance. Kick it to the curb, I say. (If only you could kick it onto my curb, LOL .) What works for some might not work for all. It isn't your fault, it's the knot today's. Might be the semi-high PH (7) of the product? That made my brow pucker but my hair seems to like it so . . .

Ugh, wouldn't you know, I told my husband to give it a try. You know those people who do conditioner only styling? Yeah, his curls were beautiful, shiny and full (he's thinning in the top so the full part is key). He's in love with it, while for me.....ick. I'm thinking summer when I might need it for more humid climates? Maybe it will do more for me?

Ok, I found a use for my kckt. I discovered that when my hair dries and I have that nasty halo frizz, or whatever, if I smooth kckt over it, it smoothes it all down and really pretties my hair up, I'll try to get some pics.

KCKT doesn't have that large an ingredient list -- perhaps you can isolate something that's in there but not in your other products?

Me, I love the stuff. Oddly, I don't like KCCC -- it gives me weird gumminess and frizz. These things can be unpredictable!

You know the funny thing about KCKT. My hair used to love this stuff. I would hoard it. Fight with my sister whenever she would use my stash of it. I stopped using it for about 4 months to try out other leave ins. And I revisited it about 3 weeks ago, and it made my hair so tangled and ratty and I had absolutely no moisture.

I used to live for this stuff. It was the best detangler ever for me, but the thrill is gone.

Here's how it turned out today. My curls look strange on the end in this pic, not sure why, but it was the only one in focus.

There was a thread awhile back about leave-ins with slip verses those with 'stick'. I've been lurking and reading through lots of back posts for 2 months so I'm not sure when/where it was posted but the gist was that less slip is better for looser/wavy curl patterns. Since KCKT, the new shea moisture leave-in and the 4naturals wavy serum all cause my hair to go limp and straight unless I use minuscule amounts I assumed this was the issue. There were a few 'sticky' leave-ins mentioned so I started using GDLI and like it much better.

I'll try and find the post and edit with a link if I find it again.

Okay, found this post with links to the thread I originally read and a blog too! I'm off to read some more.
What are some sticky, "grabby" leave-ins?

Interesting. I remember those threads. I don't seem to fit the mold since I'm more of a wavy, and I don't tangle, but I prefer the slippy ones. The grabby ones tend to leave me limp. My hair is a little on the fine side -- don't know if that would be a factor or not!

Ooooh it's my favorite paired w/ the KCKT. My hair is jawlength bob & I only use about a quarter sized amount & try to mainly focus on the outer portion of my hair (not so much into the roots). Immediately follow w/ KCCC (like a big gumball size)

I love KCKT but it's pricey and sometimes i need something with a little more oil??? It works great when I had long hair but now i have a bob and its kinda pointless. Its light and I use it alot but if I have short hair i will not be buying this for a long time oh and too much in my hair makes it sooo goopy for other products ;/

I love kckt. I use it as a leave in. it gives me alot of slip and detangles my hair. I don't know if this makes sense but it makes my hair feel so "plump" and smooth when Its wet and I only use about a nickle size amount for my bsl hair. I have very fine, very porous 3a hair that I dye monthly and still have tons of damage from years of highlighting.

Your hair is similar to mine then. Mines a 2c/3a mix though. Maybe I just need less. It works really nicely if I smooth it over dry frizzy hair. I find that it takes down any frizz and I totally get the plump feel. My hair seems to clump together when I smooth it over and it tricks me into thinking my hair is thick. Lol!

Argh. $12 down the drain.
Like lots of curlies here KCKT is a HG for me too, see sig.
That said...kckt should be applied in SMALL amounts to wet hair....and it does not play nice w/oils or oily products. If you can try it w/another line other than Shea.

Maybe I'm breaking the rules but I've been using the two leaves in lately. KCKT today first, then the SM Curl Enhancing Smoothie. They seem to play well. Also KCKT plays well with jojoba oil for me when I use that to seal. But I think that's because of my high porosity. My hair absorbs everything!

I seem to be having the same issue as the OP: All of my attempts to use KCKT have made my hair (fine, mixed porosity, 2b/2c) a gummy mess with no definition. My waves get 'floppy' and look like frayed ropes.

I'm having trouble determining the cause, since its list of ingredients is so short and none of them are known objectionable ones for me (e.g. glycerin). It might be that the KCKTis causing a gross reaction with my styling products? Usually I'm using Ouidad Define & Shine Gel-Cream over it. I had no issues with the results from that product (especially after de-crunching) until now...

My hair loves absolutely everything: proteins, oils, polyquats, glycerin, and all the other things that usually cause folks problems, but it hates KCKT. I'm still just totally baffled. The only possible thing that I can think is that it hates behentrimonium methosulfate, but even that would be odd since it does fine with behentrimonium chloride. It's all very bizarre, but I guess I should count myself lucky if this is the only product I really can't use.
