Final attempt.

3a/2c fine and undefined porosity.

I can't determine porosity but I think normal to high.

Now, I used to live in Florida and would shampoo regularly and use non CG products. We had hard water but I never had an issue. My hair was extremely healthy, curled well, and was in such better shape. I moved to Kentucky and my hair has taken a beating. Stress is making I thin out a bit and poor diet but here is the thing... I have gotten ok results in every location except my own apartment. Which leads me to believe its my water. My hair is dry and the curls have gotten so bad it's like 2b now. I have really fine hair and the condish only method didn't work. My hair goes reall straight when I use stuff like GVPCB. I shampoo often but that combined with my water issues are leaving my hair in shambles.

I'll be moving in a couple months but does anyone know what I can do now to help? I get some awesome results with wheat protein but it's drying and I can't get moisture at all.

I also want to try CJ products. Any advice?

If it is the water in your apartment, try washing with distilled water. You can get gallons of it at Walmart for 99 cents. In college, a girl used to do this - she washed her hair in the sink with purchased water, rather than using the shower water.

I would suggest 2 things - clarify, and do an ACV rinse.

Second, do the distilled water thing, or get a shower head filter. (You can always uninstall and take it with you when you move!)

You MAY want to a PT, too, followed by a DT.

HTH!!

Yes, I second the suggestion of a shower filter. I got one years ago when I lived in an apartment that had water that just did funky things to my hair. It's about $70 for the system with a filter and then another $40 when you need to replace the filter. I know that sounds like a lot, but I've found switching it every 8 months or so is enough and it's a whole lot easier than using a gallon of distiller water!

So I invested in a really nice water filter!!! I can tell the difference already! So now....what should I do? All the products I thought didn't work might react differently in my hair now! :( lol so I dont want to have to go back through the list. Can someone chime in?

I have fine 3a hair and high porosity. Maybe suggest some products you use with soft water? It's low dews right now too. The thing I'm looking for is one or two products. I like curl creams and mousses.

My main kind of question is...would something like mag sulfate react with hard water? I got a dry tangled mess. Would it possibly be different now since the water is nice and clean?

Jas76 02-16-2013 07:20 PM

Fine, 3a, high porous, as well.

I would steer clear of mag sulf right now, just until you get your build-up managed, and get the protein/moisture balance back in line.

I would clarify, perhaps try an ACV rinse, and then do a PT/DT.

My hair LOOOVES protein, and my porous hair has never been better than when I started sealing with mineral oil! You might give it a try - there is a thread about it.

Product wise I'd suggest anything by Shea Moisture, GVP Condistioning Balm, co-washing when possible.

is ACV for clarifying? and is it color-safe? is there a special way to apply it? how long do you leave it in for?

curlyQcutie22 02-19-2013 02:47 PM

nvmbrcurls: i have used both of your conditioners, the suave and the v05, with not great results. lol i just get soft limp barely wavy hair.

i tried out the tresseme curl lotion stuff last night and got mixed results on my own head! some huge barrel shaped curls in the back and little spirals in the front and then some straight pieces underneath. it was a hot mess! i re-wet this morning and applied a little LALSG for fun and geeeeezzzz.......producty feeling and pulled the curls out.

also, i washed with some GVPCB first and let it sit then shampooed with a quarter sized blob of the classic herbal essences. yes i have to shampoo or it is just limp soft curls. my hair actually felt really nice! detangled and i didnt see the frizzy littl pieces at my crown that i used to get!

i just cant figure out what to use :( i like minimal product use. ideally one or two would be great! gels make me stringy and lately mousses make me greasy looking. the herbal essences and the tresseme ones both were no-go.

I have had good results with protein. wheat protein in particular brings out the curls. Slivola on here has recommended Aveda products and i have tried some samples and had the best curls ever with the becurly style prep. i would like a leave in to help moisturize. my hair hasnt been able to handle them in the past. it seems to go from dry to over moisturized (or at least what i think is overdone) in a matter of seconds.

i know this is funny but i have my mothers curls and my dads texture. my mother has coarser hair and curls when she was younger. my dad has baby fine straight hair. so thats what im workin with.

This is with just the tresseme lotion stuff in it and air dried. I played with it a lot. This is a good pic too lol some parts were nearly straight!
