Default Issues With Moisture!

I have some issues and I hope you ladies can help. My hair is having a hard time holding moisture. I want my hair soft and relatively frizz-free. I have highly porous hair. I dye the roots about every 3 months. I do a protein treatment once a month. I deep condition once a week. I am a modified curly girl. The area I live in has mid-range humiditiy most of the year. I use light weight leave ins and stylers that have protein in them. Most of my stylers have a little silicone in them but I make sure to use a cream cleanser that can take the silicones out of my hair. I co-wash 3 times a week ( I can't go any less than that really, oily scalp). I've tried sealers. My hair doesn't do well with oils ( frizz ) or butters ( They just sit on my hair). I havent tried aloe vera yet but I'm working on that. My hair gets easily weighed down and I really want more volume with movement and little frizz, if possible.
What I currrently use but not all at once. I switch them around.
DC No-poo or CJ cream cleanser ( HG products)
One conditioner ( Rinse out but not totally, I leave a little)
Leave in's Vary, Quidad moisture lock, KCKT, TJ Nourish, DC One condioner
Stylers: Re-coil, Quidad H&H, SM Curl smoothie, SM Milk, KCCC, Mixed chicks leave in, CJ Pattern Pusha
DT: CJ Rehab
PT: CJ curl fix

These are all great products and do provied great
definition but they do leave my hair weighed down, not soft, and don't retain moisture.
Can you ladies help me with ideas on how to get moisture in my hair and retain it? I honestly feel that it will solve a lot of my hair issues.

My fine/low pososity hair doesn't care for straight oil/butter either, but does like them in well formulated products.

IMHO, it could be some of the products you're using are taking out the moisture or not moisturizing enough to add moisture. After the ingredient change several years ago, I found the Deva NoPoo really drying. Same with the CJ Daily Fix, if I use it too frequently. I also don't find KCKT moisturizing enough for me. Because of the magnesium sulfate, Re Coil can also be drying.

Not sure where you live. I live outside of Philly. When we had a really dry, cold spell with dewpoints in the single digits and negative numbers, I'd use DTs as my leave in. (my hair is so moisturized that I don't DT) You may want to up the moisture in some of your products?

If you can use Shea M, you can use anything. I can use really rich products, but find them really "heavy" if you understand the difference. I'd suggest a lot of the products in my signature.

I have been having the same problem with moisture. I think I've fixed mine now. I read on Live Curly Live Free that hair that feels dry may actually need more protein. So, I upped my protein treatments to every week for a while. That seemed to help. My hair doesn't like oil to seal, so I started putting the Shea Moisture Curl and Syle milk, which has some oils, over my conditioner that I leave in...just a nickel size. That really helped. I also plop my hair, and that helps with the volume. Hope this helps.

i have the exact same issues. My hair never gets/keeps enough moisture. There was a recent thread on this topic but I couldn't locate it. I am porous also and looking for the same results as you - decreased frizz, volume and softness. I don't do well with oils/butters either. I did the stretch test and my hair seems a little brittle so maybe a bit over proteined. Would love to find a product to up the moisture quotient!!! Hope others chime in with help.

Okay I may have figured it out. I've been watching some YouTube videos and I noticed a trend. All the girls with my hair texture pre-pooed ( lol ) with coconut oil before they washed or co-washed. So I tried it. I used a small amount of coconut oil to detangle my hair. Left it in no more than it took to turn on the shower. I also added a lil suave coconut to areas that were dry looking. I then co washed and conditioned. I rinsed my hair upside down. I then applied my products. And Boom! Soft voluminous hair. Still more defined than I would like but I believe I can fix that by adding less product. I also scrunched the product into my hair instead of racking it in.

Fine, high porous girl here!

I use SM, and I use GVPCB, and my HG is sealing with mineral oil! It's amazing!!

PT's with gelatin are the best!!

And DT's with oil added (EVOO or EVCO)

Ah, thanks Jas. I think I just didnt give oil a second chance but now I'm realizing there's other ways to use it and have it be effective. I will add it to my deep treats. How often do you do you Gelatin PT? I used to do them and actually had good results. I'm a product junkie and get easily distracted . I should start them up again.
How much mineral oil do you use and when. Thanks again

I use gelatin PT's IDEALLY once a week, but I've been so busy lately that I've slacked on that a bit, and subbed in other PT's.

For the MO, I use it on soaking wet hair, over LI, under gel. Just a few drops- my hair is long and dense, and I put 5-10 drops on with a small amount of LI, just to make it easier to distribute. I put it on my nape and ends, then scrunch it up the hair shaft before apply gel.

HTH!
