No curls on the roots

Ciao everyone,

I'm sure someone has already talked about this, but I cannot find the topic so I opened a new one.

I have 3B hair and for some reason it doesn't really curl on the root. In the past it used to do it, but now it doesn't. I have a long straight section before the curl starts, and when it does it's a hot spiral!
I have no idea how to enhance it. I bought products that say they boost your curls but no difference has been achieved.
I just had my hair cut and I have layers so it should curl. My hair looks very healthy, no split ends, no shampoo for the past 4 years.
I flip my hair upside down when drying, tried to build up the curl when still wet...nothing.
Please, please, please help me! I loooooove my curls and I just want it all curly all the way.

Generally, flat roots are the mark of Type 2 curls. In your case, it sounds like classic Botticelli curls, which are WONDERFUL.

Have you tried clipping your roots while your hair is drying? That seems to add root-curl for some folks here. I do this myself to add volume. Get some mid-sized octopus/claw clips, and use them to grab the root hair along your part. The clips should be standing straight up along your part when you are done. Not sure if this will help or not, but it's worth a shot! Hopefully others will chime in with more recs.

Hi Claudine.
No my hair has always been type 3, with very defined spirals all over the head. Just recently it has started not curling from the roots...don't know why :/

Hi,
Thank you for the advice. Right now I have only small clips, but I will definitely get some like the ones you suggested. If they won't give the curls at least I'll get more volume! Thank you :thumbleft:

No solution, but I have a similar "problem". My roots are nowhere near as defined as my ends.
