Finally getting consistent results!!

I wash my hair everyday. I use a sulfate free shampoo and tresemme 24 hour body conditioner. It's not CG, but it works for me. Then when I get out I rake AG recoil through and then flip my hair over and rake through my gel (Broaer- a brand from Spain which is impossible to find). I let it air dry for about 10-15 minutes then I flip over and blow dry it (no diffuser). I use a low setting and high heat and blow dry the back of my hair while flipped over (that way I get more volume and no frizz). Boy, I didn't realize I did so much every morning lol I guess cuz it's routine by now here's the end results:

If I just air dry I have less volume. Air drying for 10 minutes first lets the products settle in and the diffusing gives me volume

I think my fear of volume comes from the fact that I spent much of my life fighting it. It's just so thick. So when I started styling with lots of emollients and scrunching to let it clump and then I left it be, well, I was pretty happy. That said I would like more root volume. The weight of my hair tends to pull there and I'm usually too lazy to mess with the clippies. It would be nice to figure out a way to blow dry my crown to give it some volume. Which blow dryer is it that you have with the giant diffuser?

I have the FHI nano salon pro 2000. And I hate using the clips for my roots too. They get snagged in my hair and end up causing frizz. Plus they don't help with volume
Medium texture, normal porosity, normal elasticity
I have been using octopus clips so that the tangling issues don't happen anymore, and that works nicely. I just leave them in through half of my diffusing, more if I air dry.

I have the roller jaw clips but have not figured out how to use them yet.

I liked the metal clips, and still use them to pin curl a rouge curl or two, but they did tangle at times. I have had no trouble with the octopus clips doing so!

I just have a Revlon hair dryer with a snap on diffuser - $17.99 on sale, and it does the job for me.

Yet another update! (I hope I'm not getting annoying lol )

Last night I washed with L'Oreal EverCreme Co-Wash and followed up with a gob of GVPCB.

Just let partly air dry/went to bed without doing anything special with my hair.

Woke up, stuck my head in the shower and rinsed my hair with cold water until it was damp but not fully wet/soaking.

Applied a gob of Tresemme Naturals, finger-detangled.

Applied LA Looks Sport to each section of my hair (used a LOT more than I had previously used with KCCC).

Spritzed the canopy with a bit of SM Curl + Shine mist.

Let air dry.

My hair is mostly dry now, and I have great curl definition and minimal frizz. A bit of crunchiness that I didn't have with KCCC, but nothing a bit of scrunching can't handle!

Tentative conclusion: I CAN have a simple, nearly wash-n-go routine that works with a variety of products (HE or LE!) and gives me consistently good results!

(If it's alright, I'll come back with quick reports if I get similar/different results with different products).

EDIT: My hair is fully dry now and looking awesome! SO happy! *sigh* I wish I had reason to want clumps, though...my hair is thin and sparse, so if I had clumps, even lovely ones, I'd look like I had so little hair....x___x;

I guess it's actually jaw clips, not octopus clips I'm using, tho octo clips would work about the same, I guess.

The roller jaw clips - I don't think I'm using them right yet.

The jaw/octo clips I'm using don't cause any stretching and don't tangle, etc. the just lift at the roots and give more root curl and prevent flat top.

I'm sure I could get much more root volume with the roller clips - provided I figure them out...

I also felt like I had to apply a lot more of the AIF than I do the KCCC. With KCCC, I put very little. With AIF it didn't feel quite right and I wound up putting more every time but then my hair felt, well, disgusting. So stiff and artificial. I can't seem to find a balance. My hair is thick so it feels like it needs more product only it doesn't drink the Aussie the way it does KCCC. The funny thing is I know I don't need that much hold now. My hair will curl and do its thing regardless so long as it's properly moisturized. But the AIF doesn't saturate my hair the way KCCC does so it's hard to tell. I'd say I put about a quarter size glob of AIF per side with an additional dime size in the back which is my "stubborn" area. . .

At least, before, when I applied it to soaking wet hair, some parts of my hair would dry very crunchy and some parts would dry undefined and frizzy, like the gel had been badly distributed.

Loved reading through everyone's routines! Thanks to all who have posted. I use the jaw clips that Jas76 is describing. They work well for volume for me. I'll be interested to see if you ever figure out the roller clips. I've been tempted to buy some but have resisted so far.

I've been having great luck so far with cocktailing SM Smoothie with gel. I've used it with LALS and Aussie Instant Freeze. I mix the two together in my hands then rake it through very wet hair. All the benefits of both products - great moisture, great hold, springy curls with little to no crunch.
