Doh! Roller jaw clips huh? Well I was at the salon and I asked if they had jaw clips. So I got six of roller jaw ones for $3.50 I think. Now I want the regular jaw clips since those seem easier. I guess I'll go to Sally's. And maybe once I'm there I'll pick up a blow dryer?
Don't worry, Joseybird. I'm not laying all of my hair issues at your feet. I usually don't style when my hair when it's soaking wet either. I scrunch out the excess moisture first with a MF towel after leave in and before gel. But it's just with heavy gels like AIF I thought putting it in when my hair was dripping wet might be the miracle worker but. . . guess not. And mhen that's a great suggestion! Honestly is there anything that Shea Moisture's curl enhancing smoothie can't do? I'm gonna cocktail my AIF next time I experiment. Maybe then I can get it to work for me.

Happy accident today!
Bc it was laundry day (and my husband decided running a load of dishes on top of the washer running and me taking a shower was a good idea), I ran out of hot water in the shower today.
I had just clarified and had put ion reconstructor in my hair, (and had shaved one leg) when the water rapidly started getting colder.
So I opted to get out and put a bag on my head and just D/PT it. (And shave the other leg with my electric razor.)
I rinsed it out probably a couple hours later, styled and plopped. Took the plop down and WOW spirals!!
I planned on air drying today, but it was SO wet that I decided to diffuse just a little. (No more than 50%)
It's still air drying the rest of the way, but I seems it might turn out really well! Fingers crossed!!

We've had water heater issues in my dorm recently and I've been pleasantly surprised when I've gotten out fo the shower to finish styling my hair! I wonder if the lack of steam calms down frizz? I've co-washed and detangled in the shower, then squeezed some water out so that my hair is basically straight, then gotten out of the shower and smoothed SM Smoothie and PureClean gel on section by section. By this point it looks pretty odd, my hair being stick straight with a bit of a loose curl on the end. I fill a cup with water and pour half on the length of my hair on either side. then I tilt forward, loosen the roots with my fingertips, and scrunch up the wet length of my hair. I add more gel after that, remove a bit more water with a towel, and voila! significantly less frizz! Could be helped by the fact that on those days I didn't go outside into the freezing cold for a long time after I showered :P
Makes me wonder, though!

Jas, I would never in a million years have the patience and perseverance to do all that to my hair. No way! are you having any luck with the clips?

Myrna, it takes no time, I swear. Aside from leaving it in the bag during the treatment, and the 15-20 I plopped, but the wash, applying conditioner, and style takes no time. I don't really know why that sounds like a lot to you! Lol!
As for the clips - I've not played with the roller clips again yet. I haven't really had time. Maybe I will get to it this week!
The small jaw clips are doing ok, tho!

Here is my almost perfected routine. For RO I've used GVPCB, Yes To Carrots, and Matrix CB with equal results.
I have recently been experimenting with ways to get root and crown volume with some success (repeatable). Here is what I do if I want volume:

1. After smoothing on the RO, I use my wide tooth comb and comb my hair upside down. Then I flip back up and do the "baptism" rinse described in the Curly Girl Method. Then I take my comb or fingers and comb my top layers out straight away from my head. Then I flip back over and scrunch the condish in more. Lastly, I do a quick rinse upside down.

2. Scrunch wet hair upside down and side to side with flour sack towel.

3. Apply my FSG or Devacurl volizing mouse and scrunch scrunch scrunch upside down.

4. Apply my harder hold gel . Then scrunch with flour sack towel again.

5. Flip hair back up and back shaking it little side to side. At this point, I can feel the clumps standing up a bit from my head.

6. Plop for 15-30 minutes.

This is the step that I just added that has helped the most:

7. Diffuse using the pixie curl technique upside down and side to side. While doing a side, I also place the diffuser against the top side of my head, making sure that the hair is resting in a direction towards the top so the roots dry in a position where the hair is laying in the opposite direction it normally falls. Lastly, I partially flip my hair upside down so only the top layers in back are hanging upside down and place the diffuser against my scalp to dry the roots in the opposite direction.

Using this process I get similar results to using the CHS roller clamps without any curl disruption.
