Revlon discontinued my haircolor

I am so upset I could cry. Revlon introduced the new Colorsilk buttercream line and in process of that discontinued the shade I use in the regular colorsilk line, Strawberry Blonde. I contacted them to confirm it and the answer was due to fashion trends they sometimes have to discontinue a popular product. Um what?! There is nothing comparable in the new line to match my shade and their suggestion....try medium golden blonde or light auburn. Um again, what?! Neither of those are even remotely close to my current shade and I have used this color for fifteen plus years. I want to cry....

Oh no!!! Could you try mixing the two colors to make something close??

You could probably still find the color in stores or online, at least for now? In the meantime you could try searching for something else. It's a little bit of homework but here goes.

Revlon is owned by MacAndrews & Forbes. A little trick I've used in the past is to look at who owns a brand. Afterward, I look at all the other brands that the companies owns...and chances are there's a product similar to what I use (similar ingredients) and one of them is always cheaper. So I go for the cheapest, and have the same results.

So in your case, I would check out all the brands M&F currently own. I realize it's way more delicate because color is so specific, but it's worth a shot. Try looking into Almay, Philosophy skincare, Sinful Colors, Charlie fragrances, Mitchum, Ultima II Cosmetics and Gatineau skincare. I don't color my hair so I don't know if these other brands even offer hair coloring products, but it's worth a try. You can also compare ingredients in-between in the Revlon color lines. You might be surprised!

This sounds like a great idea.
Another suggestion which would also save you money would be to try to figure out (with help from a knowledgeable Revlon CS person or maybe a hairdresser) which color and level make up strawberry blonde and mix your own. Seems to me it would be blonde + red but of course it's a bit more complicated than that.
Buying a bottle of color (or more than one color) and peroxide and mixing yourself is not hard at all and it's more economical than buying those kits. (This is assuming you're using permanent color, not the kind that washes out).

I second that idea! Go to a Sally's, tell them your issue, and they can probably guide you through what you need to mix your own, or perhaps even a kit that would be comparable.

My college roommate did that (mixed her own color from things she bought at Sally's), and she was a double processes blonde! I would think straight hair color would be a lot easier than bleaching then highlighting DIY! There's hope for you! Lol! And that's not something that will get discontinued, either!

I did consider the Sallys option and I may attempt that.

So far I haven't been able to locate any in stores. It wasn't carried in every store. Mostly I only found it at Wal-Mart. Ulta, Walgreens and cvs carry colorsilk but in limited color choices. Target sometimes had it. Walmart always had biggest selection and its already off the shelves to make room for the new line. I probably should have changed a couple years ago when it started to be a little harder to find but walmart always had it. And sadly most all the other lines I have looked at so far have no strawberry blond option at all. A few have light reddish blond but that isnt quite the same. Also I liked colorsilk because of no ammonia. I might try Big Lots to see if any of it pops up there.

I don't have time to do a thorough search right now - but a quick look and I found one for ecocolor and one for age beautifully - whatever they are. but they had their product colors compared to the main stream colors - so that might give you and idea of where to look if you change brands. I found my color on Amazon for reasonable. Stocked up so that should hold me for a little while till I figure something else out. Gives me more time to research a good replacement

I used that color when I started seeing grey. I'm much happier with henna now, although the color is more intense. Maybe start researching that option when you get close to running out of Colorsilk?
