Weird Curls..

I posted this in 4a and got one reply. (Thanks!!! :) )

But in sure other hair types have weirdness going on too. And I wanna hear about it! So here is my post.

My hair only curls at the bottom!! Like, I have about 3" of hair that doesn't clump together. It's "curly" but not clumpy. Seems backwards. Like the weight should be on your roots so they'd be stretched out. But mine is bushy at the roots, and curly like the last 3/4 of the hair. That ish crazy!!!! And it's like that no matter how long it gets. My roots look like new growth. Like I'm growin some process out. :p

Also, my roots don't really tangle, that curly hair gets tangled. The last parts after those 2 or 3 inches!!!

It's just weird. I don't think it's fixable, but it is weird enough to share.

Is anyone else's hair like this? Or weird in another way?

i have pieces that only clump and curl beautifully at the ends, too. and the rest of the strands look stretched and un-clumped. not exactly what you're describing but weird nonetheless.

i'm assuming it has to do with how i apply product. concentrating on the ends to keep them protected and stop them from wrapping around each other (i.e. tangling). my hair is thicker at the roots but that's because it's new, undamaged growth. and hasn't learned to behave yet!

My hair does this very same thing. How long is your hair? I've noticed it but I've always thought it was because my natural hair is still very short, about 5 inches long.

Now that you mention it though, I looked at the sole baby pic I have (where my hair isn't brushed to sheep-like status) and the roots are not defined. After an inch or two of something that isn't straight nor curly, it Os all the way down. I just took a pic, does yours look something like that?

Kinda. It honestly looks like I have a texturizer, but I have like MAD new growth. :p

I think it may be how product is applied. I do tend to focus on my ends also. Then again I made an effort to apply my gel at the roots just to see what would happen. My hair was a BIT more defined, but still the ends curled nicer.

My hair is past my shoulders stretched, but you know shrinkage is a BEAST, so it still looks fairly short. I assume when my hair gets longer it will look... Different? I don't know. LoL!

See how the ends are nice and curled, but the roots are just meh. It's like that all over.

See that black line down my back in the mirror? THAT'S MY HAIR!! It's WAAAAY past my shoulders. But once it's all dried...

Back to neck length. LoL!!

Anyway, I think naturally curly hair is just weird. Beautiful, but weird.

Do the roots respond if you twist them? I attached a second pic...this seems to work but I don't know how much hair will respond until I'm fully natural. I know I'm not going to coil inch by inch (I'm too impatient) but it'd be nice if I could grab a good section and twist it until it root curls.

Super pretty hair by the way! Very long, have you always been natural?

BlackAngelPlayah 03-07-2013 04:01 AM

I have been natural for going on 8 years! My last relaxer was April 2005. I went to locs right away and kept them until May of 2011. :)

I discovered twists don't define my hair at the roots unless I twist VERY small and honestly, it just doesn't bother me THAT much. LoL! :)
