Hair analysis

Like Tree2Likes

I just got mine back and I'm blown away! I'm seriously wondering if they mixed my results up with someone else lol. My hair is fine. I thought it was med-course. Normal porosity and elasticity. I thought it was porous, wasn't sure about the elasticity. I've spent tons of money on heavy creams and butters, oops! No wonder I haven't been happy with my hair.

I, too, always thought that my hair was SUPER coarse. My hair was always relatively healthy compared to others and SUPER dense. That's why it seems thick... in the end I turned out to be fine, too!

I just got mine back yesterday and I got the same results! I didn't think I had fine hair either, but I guess I have thin hair but just LOTS of it. What blew my mind is that my write up basically said I need more protein and I thought I was protein sensitive! No wonder my hair had been a frizzy, limp mess...

I also thought I was protein sensitive but based on the write up, I think my issues were stemming from too many emollients on my fine hair. The description of the effects of too many emollients on fine hair is totally spot on for the issues I'm having.

Same! I just did a mini drip treatment with some old ouidad 12 minute deep treatment (didn't have time to heat it with a blow dryer so just left it on in the shower) and they curled right back up!

...I got my results back yesterday, and have the same results! Fine, medium porosity, normal elasticity. I also have pretty dense hair. I measured my ponytail last night and I'm just above 4 inches around, and I can't even get all my hair in at once (too short still).

Lots of hair twins in this thread!!

At first I thought I had med-coarse hair, but when I pulled some out for the sample I decided they looked pretty fine. I was clueless about porosity though.

I'm excited to get on track with product selection! (not so excited about what it's going to do to my bank account…) Although I have a $100 gift card to Walmart, which I may or may not dedicate exclusively to hair products…

We'll have to keep each other posted as we try out new products!!

Just wondering, where did you all get your Hair Analysis? Kinda want to get mine done.
Pixar: I got mine done at the live curly live free website http://livecurlylivefree.com/hair%20analysis.htm it took about a month to get my results back but it seems like the wait will be worth it!

I had totally the opposite (same. . .?) reaction. After doing the tests and observing it a few weeks, I was very sure that my hair was medium texture, normal porosity and elasticity. I got back coarse, high, and low. Now I'm reevaluating my density and wondering if my hair really is dense or that the strands are merely thicker than average. And all you fine hair ladies should send your rich butter creams my way because my hair seems to love that stuff. Guess that should've been a clue, right?

Don't get rid of it! I was just kidding. Fine curly hair needs emollients too just not as much. (Curly hair needs emollients in general.) Just reevaluate the way you use it. Don't use so much. And up your protein intake. From what I've read your hair should respond to a balance since it's normal porosity and porosity is a big factor too. It needs to be hydrated and it needs protein.

To those who have done the test...does it give you suggestions of what ingredients to try on your hair or avoid? Or do you have to do that on your own?
2c, some straight pieces on canopy, curlier underneath. Fine, thin, unsure on porosity - sent in my sample and waiting to hear back. Products - have a bunch I am trying out, CJ, Deva, SM Yucca, TJ.
Yes, it gives you guidelines and instructions. I think it used to come with product recommendations even but they stopped doing that. Correct me if I'm wrong curl veterans.

Okay just checked my analysis and it says (doing the nutshell version) cut out proteins in penetrating products and be careful of them with stylers. Also use lots of emollients. In the live curly live free e-book however, there's a chapters that goes, if your hair is fine (medium, coarse) and your porosity is low (medium, high) do this.

Question -- is that hair analysis also available for curlies outside of USA? I think I have a pretty good idea about my hair properties, but I'd like to have it confirmed by an analysis.

1. You purchase it.
2. They email you a pdf to print and sign, and instructions on how to take a hair sample.
3. You sign the form, put 16-20 hairs in a plastic baggie and send them to LCLF.
4. They email you a PDF of your results and recommendations.

So, I don't think it should be a problem on their side, as long as it's not a problem for you.

I'm really glad I did it. I was all over the place deciding on what my porosity was. I think I have been overmoisturizing my hair like crazy. Which would explain why my hair has been SO happy both times I've had to use a sulfate poo to clarify.

^Thanks! Think I'll definitely give it a try once my busy agenda has settled down.

Quick & Easy Hair Porosity & Density Tests

My ponytail came out at 4 and 1/8th inch, so I declared myself high density. If we're thinking in terms of sheer number of strands, I guess texture (coarse vs. fine) could lead to some inaccuracy in the measurement technique. But in terms of your hair's volume (size/bulk/mass), I think this is a decent enough guideline.

Ordered my Hair Analysis today and mailed it in! Excited to find out exactly what my hair type is! I'll try to remember to update once the results are in.
