Question I'm so lost!! Please HELP!!

HELLO Friends,
I'm BRAND NEW HERE..& I've been trying to figure this whole curly thing out... I've had curls all my life, but my mother never tended to them.. (she had no idea how too i guess.) Fast forward to 28 yrs later after using a blow dryer & flat iron off & on for about 5 yrs now. I AM SICK OF IT!!! IT DRIVES ME CRAZY TO STRAIGHTEN IT!! I always thought I hated my curls but, I really didn't .. I JUST HATE FRIZZ WITH A PASSION!! & living in Louisiana frizz is almost inevitable if you don't know how to take care of curls... SO NEEDLESS TO SAY, I am confident that the "naturally curly professionals" CAN GET ME & MY CURLS WHERE I DESPERATELY NEED TO BE!!!

Okay, I'm not sure my curl type or pattern... i think
not sure the porosity... It is rough when i slide my fingers up the hair strand.
not sure the density... i think medium?
not sure the width... ????
& finally something i know the length is at my shoulder blades & layered.

I was not sure where to start or what what products to start with.. After studying a bit on this site, I remembered I had bought Ojon restorative treatment, Conditioner shampoo, & Conditioner.. So I started there. about 2 and a half weeks ago.. I shampooed & conditioned about twice a week. & I left conditioner in over night twice. & also done the restorative treatment as well. I do not see much of a difference in my hair besides it smells wonderful! O & also I done a ARGAN OIL intensive conditioning Treatment from Morocco last night thinking that's what i need to tame this frizz down ( & FRIZZ is worst than EVER!) I'm so confused & LOST!!

Also i want to post pics but i don't know how..

Welcome, BelleDeLis! There's much to learn here and it can be overwhelming at first. Finding the right products and techniques can take some time and patience. My hair is very fine and I can get overconditioned easily - frizz city when that happens. The key for me is to keep a balance of moisture and protein. The following link was really helpful to me when I was first learning:

I second that. That site is wonderful. It'll help you figure out your texture and even if you can't yourself (I was wrong about my own) there's a hair analysis service. It'll also help you figure out how you hair might react to the humid Louisiana weather. Check out the frizz forecast feature on this site. It's under the "care" bar. I think you're a 3A and a strong one. You also look high density. Unfortunately I can't tell about your specific properties from a photograph. So the argan oil intensive treatment, what are the ingredients? Does it contain silicones? I used to like the moroccan oil treatment before I went CG and then after learning all about silcones I realized this product is mostly silicones, little argan oil:

Moroccanoil Treatment

My hair seems to hate silicones because it's less frizzy and much more curly without 'em. Not everybody's hair hates silicones though but that's my two cents.

I will definitely check out that site in a minute.. So far the most I understand about ingredients is to stay away from SLS & SLeS?? Is there anything else you could recommend as a "stay away from" ingredient? I am trying to understand but it like Greek to me! So here you go tell me what you get out of this.. hehee.

Haha. Thanks. It's actually something I got called in grade school. Gotta put that thing down, flip it and reverse it.

Yes, I think you're 3A because they seem like big loopy curls, not s-waves, and you even have a strong amount of root curl. I only get root curl in the front but then I never bother to diffuse so that might be what's weighing my hair down.

Okay so the ingredients. Oh dear, there are a lot of things that might or might not be causing frizz. Ingredients are listed as what it contains most to least and the second ingredient is glycerine. Glycerine is a powerful humectant that can act up in high dews and cause frizz. It's like it slurps up all the water in the atmosphere. I also see polyquats which for some people cause buildup and frizz. Also there are silicones but further down the ingredient list and maybe those coupled with the polyquats could be giving you grief. Some people might be okay with one or the other but not both. There's also wheat protein which can seriously dry your hair out (my hair freaks out with that stuff) if you're protein sensitive. That plus the glycerine might be drying your hair from the inside out and then your hair reaches out to the humid (Louisiana) atmosphere which can cause serious frizz. This is just conjecture. It takes trial and error to figure out which ingredients your hair likes and doesn't like. But I'd recommend checking out that website. There's also a livecurlylivefree ebook I bought recently that goes into more detailed information about specific ingredients. But really most of it's on that site. I honestly didn't have to get that book but it's nice to have the information on my kindle.

I also recommend a protein treatment. Also, many of us have much better now compared to when they first started CG. Your hair might just need some time! Also, when the humidity is low or very high, be careful with humectants in your leave in and styling products.

I second LiveCurlyLiveFree! Also, with possible heat damage from all that flat iron use, u could be looking at an overdue protein treatment, (VO5 Silky Experiences, Curl Junkie Repair Me, Joico K-pak or Tigi Oatmeal and Honey are all good starter options)...

3B, Fine, Med D, Norm P&E
LowP: Kinky Curly CC (50% EVOO)
NoP: As I Am CC
RO: Suave Coconut/VO5 Shea Cashmere
LI: KCKT/ HETT(mixed w/ GSO or EVOO)

thank you.. Aqua_Lily I appreciate your response ") I'm praying I can catch on.. I have faith & I'm sure I'll conquer this frizz battle .. disappointing results are just so frustrating. I'm not what humectants are.. I will have to study up on them.. also I will be applying a protein treatment as soon as possible.

Although it may have proteins (only the ingredients can confirm this), I'm pretty sure matrix has cones. This could be a counterproductive treatment...but let know how it goes

I just want to say that I think your hair looks gorgeous. I wish I had that much overall curl! And I honestly don't see any frizz - your hair looks quite healthy, IMHO.

CG is like learning a new language, and all the terms, techniques, products etc. can be overwhelming at first. The best strategy is to find a hair twin: someone with the same porosity, texture and density as you, and see what works for them. This will save you a lot of time and money in choosing the products and methods that are best suited to your hair type.

Welcome to our community
