When I got my hair cut last week the layers came out awesome. However, at the end they were like ok so you want to get it blown out right? uhhh no. They were so surprised. My friend that I went with was like what?? Why not?! Well, when I told them that I happen to like my natural hair then the girl who cut it for me was nice enough to say that I have great hair and doesn't blame me. Another client was leaving and saw my hair and said "Oooo her hair is so nice! What are you using on her?" Then she bought the spray the woman put in my hair. Unfortunately for her, that spray didn't do a thing for me and that's just how my hair always is lol. The products actually dried my hair out if anything. It was when I washed the next day that I was like Woah! Anyway, the moral of the story is why do salons always assume you want your hair blown out? It gets annoying after a while. I know many women don't like their hair natural, but don't just assume that I want to get my curls straightened please. It doesn't help us embrace our hair when the world tells us we shouldn't. Just ask me first, and don't act like I have 3 heads when I say no.

This is so true. Sometimes I think that it's because they don't know how to style it curly. I got a cut a few weeks ago, and the stylist was doing great: she left in lots of conditioner, used a microfiber towel, and then clipped up my roots and put me under a helmet-dryer. Everything was going perfectly! But then, to finish drying, she had to diffuse the ends. And as soon as she started diffusing, she also started running her hands all throughout my hair! Well, needless to say this ruined everything! I really like my stylist, so I just told her nicely that I would rather let the rest air-dry and got the hell out of there. She's great at everything else but just doesn't seem to know some curly hair basics.

The same thing happened to me! She cut my hair perfectly, blow dryed it some, and it looked great. But then she was like "Look how nice it came out!" and she started running her fingers through it and playing with it! I was horrified. That ruined it! It became all frizzy and messy I didn't say anything at the time because I didn't know how to politely BACK OFF WOMAN! If I go back to her again I'll tell her to stop if she did it. She did a great job with everything else, so I can deal with that. I am surprised at how little people know that you shouldn't do it. Even my own mom has done it to me and I spazz out

I actually ask for stylists to blow out my hair because I have yet to find one who can fix it curly the way I want. I once tried to show a stylist the pixie curl diffuser method and she gave up after only one section :/ I don't have a very strong curl pattern, so it's not a huge issue for me anyway. It's just faster to have it blown out. However, I do bring my own products and DO NOT allow them to put hairspray on it (my air becomes hella dry with hairspray). It is true that most stylists don't know how to style curly hair. I typically air dry and they don't want someone leaving the salon looking like it's unfinished.

I think it's a combination of not knowing how to style curly hair and wanting to be able to charge a fee for a blow out.

I'm currently a cosmetology student, and I always get so excited when fellow curlies come to my school. The majority of my curly customers insist on getting their hair blown out after a cut. I've practically begged some of them to let me style their hair naturally. Lol! I honestly believe the reason so many stylists default to straightening curly hair is simply because that's what they are used to doing fir the majority of their clients. As much as we all love our curls, whirls, kinks and coils here on this site (and others), we're still a minority in "real life". I know so many women who would rather flatiron and follow up with a curling iron than wear their natural curls. It's so mind-boggling!

I have very thick hair and no one every offers to blow it out. I feel if I asked them to do it (for a change) I'd be asking them to do extra work.
I did have a stylist who would diffuse my hair for just a few minutes and then stop, leaving it very damp. I didn't like that.

That's why they don't offer it. They know it would be hard work lol. But with me they're itching to do it every time
