Not comfortable with no bangs....
I had bangs for years when I wore my hair straight. On bad hair days I could put my hair in a ponytail with my bangs and it looked cute. When I went curly I let my bangs grow out - however, I don't like the way having no bangs looks. It's like I have too much forehead or something. I try it parted in the middle or thrown over to one side. It just doesn't look like me - the curls do but not the front of my head!! And forget about a ponytail - I look like a skinned rat - in all to me I have too much face or something. I'm a business professional so I really can't afford to not feel confident with the way my hair looks.
Does anyone else have this issue and if so any suggestions on what to do with the front of my hair? I've tried clips for volume, sprays. Diffusing upside down- you name it. Should I go back to bangs or is their a curly solution I'm missing?
Thanks!!

when you do a ponytail, i'd do it very loosely, letting maybe a few strands of hair 'escape,' if they are fairly short. avoid that 'skinned' look! i think a loose ponytail can look very professional, even without any 'escaped' strands, key word being loose.
you don't say what your curl type is, but if it is wavy or 3a, you can easily do side-swept pieces, they are much longer than bangs and cut differently, so that you can s***e them easily to the side and it all just blends in.
even if you have a tighter curl, a good stylist should be able to find a way to cut a very few shorter pieces around your face, not a lot, not an angled cut, but just a few graduated short to longer pieces.
i'd look at photos and see what i could find to bring to the stylist, beware of what she might think you want!! :-)

I have been lurking on these boards for a couple months but decided I would chime in here. I wear currently wear bangs, but straighten my bangs, I feel insecure as well without them. Here are a couple pictures of me with what I do...

Thank you everyone for your responses. RBB - thank you so much - I'm mostly a 3b with some 3a mixed in. I agree about the looser ponytail. I need to play more with that.
Thanks Jas76 and curlygirlelaina - I loved the pictures. I was straightening my bangs as well before they grew out.
I have a hair appt coming up soon so I will discuss with my stylist who I am so thankful I found.
I really appreciate this forum as well. I ran across this forum by accident and went curly soon after..
Thanks!!

I think you should get curly bangs. They do exist. You just have to kind of finger twirl them and kind of spread them apart your forehead and also be mindful of shrinkage. Your stylist should be able to cut them correctly for you.
P.S. I blame Michelle Obama for all the bang-pangs I've been having lately. I was watching her yesterday at the Oscars and they look so good on her. . .

I feel exactly the way you do about my bangs. Whenever I think I want to grow them out, I pin them back and go ACK!! look at all that forehead! so I keep my bangs long, eyebrow length, and straighten them. I like having them cut in a sidesweep. But they do drive me crazy. but I'd rather bangs than no bangs.

I definitely vote for getting them side swept styled. Straight bangs with naturally curly hair just looks off to me...or maybe like something on a doll.

I agree. Anything but the straightened bangs. It just doesn't look right on hair with root curl.

I wish I was of more help - but I'm at a loss with my own bangs. :/

I have bangs and do what jipszee does with hers (it sounds the same anyway!). My hair is a 3a/b mix, the 3a being at the front, and I have no root curl so I can blend it all together reasonably well. I think it depends on your curl as to what you can get away with bangs-wise.

Same exact issues as you!
I pin my bangs back. (growing them out)
I feel i have too much forehead.
I miss my bangs, but they just didn't curl at all when they were shorter, and didn't look right. Still don't know what to do with them.

There was curly lady asking a similar question maybe a week ago and I told her I used to have curly bangs when I had shorter hair. They looked somewhat like this:
http://img.ehowcdn.com/article-page-...ir-800x800.jpg
http://www.hdofblog.com/wp-content/u...-styles-07.jpg
And they honestly didn't look bad. I'd put product in them, twirl them a little to get them in place and muss them up. As I said I'm kind of missing my bangs lately. I might go back to this but for me it's easy to do the sideswept thing so it's probably not worth it.

I have curly bangs. Go ahead and cut some! I usually sweep them to the side. Don't be afraid of curly bangs they look great when done correctly, just like straight bangs.
