Hi!

- I use Jamaican Black castor oil on my scalp. I dilute it with some coconut oil because JBCO is so thick. I use coconut oil with it because it can penetrate the hair shaft and my hair likes it. Also, it's less greasy than olive oil.
I apply it everyday before I go to bed. I massage my scalp with it (massaging your scalp may also stimulate hair growth).

- Yes, I have DEFINITELY seen change. Still see it. It REALLY improves hair growth. I document my hair growth carefully and since using Jamaican Black Castor oil my hair has grown twice as fast at least.
I cannot yet tell whether it made my hair thicker too, because I only use it on my scalp.

- About 4 months.

I used it for a while but didn't notice any difference unfortunately. There's a thread about it in the thinning hair forum which has a few more opinions/info.

@mixedcurlygirl:

Yes I think coconut oil is light, especially compared to olive and jojoba.

I use 50% coconut, and 50% JBCO. I mix it, and done

The coconut oil makes the JBCO really smooth, that makes it easy to massage with it.

The next morning it has absorbed into my scalp. At least, that's what it feels like. I do not feel the need to co-wash, I usually wash 3 to 4 times a week and that works perfectly fine for me.

Now Foods. Now Foods, 100% Natural Coconut Oil, 7 fl oz (207 ml) - iHerb.com

It's in its pure, solid form, so you have to microwave it first.

I find just scooping it out and mixing it with a warmed spoon (that you've run under the tap) makes solid coconut melt very fast. The reason I say that is most plastic containers holding coconut milk will not be BPA free. If you're worried about that when you microwave.

Aqua_lily, I'm curious about the castor oil. Does it ever irritate your scalp or make it itchy? Because I'm still trying to deduce what it was in my As I Am Co-Wash that drove my scalp crazy. From my research I'm 90% sure it was the drying preservative but I've also been reading that castor oil has the tendency to build up. But here you say it absorbs into your skin quite easily. I want to get some castor oil just to experiment in skin and hair care too. I'm getting the NOW castor oil though, not the Jamaican black one to start off with.

I have nutiva oil. I bought it for $10 at a small health food store and it's great, but I also have a container of Trader Joe's coconut oil that I purchased for $6 that is chilling in the kitchen. I've sampled it already and there's virtually no difference. So long as the coconut oil is extra virgin it's good for your hair and skin.

I bought JBCO once a long time ago and didn't notice a difference between this and regular castor oil. I am currently using the Now brand castor oil mixed with a little EVOO and love the results.
