That's so odd - I've never gotten ANY crunch from FSG. Maybe bc I'm high porous? Maybe my hair just sucks it all in and it can't leave a cast? Lol!

Maybe u also use leavein and that is why you never had crunchy hair. How do you use the FSG?
I myself was not using a leave in. I still do not use leave in because I consider my 3tbs FSG plus 1 tbsp jojoba oil and 11/2 tsp glycerin as both a leavein and gel. Adding the glycerin removes any crunchiness.

Yeah, I'm sure it's the LI and sealing. I'm so porous, though, that I HAVE to seal.

I use FSG as a curl enhancer/clump-maker, then put hard hold gel over it.

I hear it makes a good refresher, too, so I may give that a try here soon!

I get a slight crunch but then again I put it in dry hair. When I put it in sopping wet I don't. I think if you add oil to FSG it would act as a sealer and you wouldn't have to do the sealing/leave in separately. I'll have to try it.

There's already vitamin E oil in my FSG but I don't know if that's a good sealer or not. Maybe next time I'll add a tsp of GSO or Jojoba too.

Where do you buy gelatin? Its not the same kind you find with the jello, is it?

What should i add to my FSG so i don't have to refrigerate it?
I always forget to grab in the morning, and then its too late....I'm in the shower!

Also could someone tell me what is in coconut oil that dries out my hair.
It makes it Really dry!! Is it protein?

Thanks girls. You're wonderful!

Flippalicious, (thanks for the compliment, btw! ), I'm no FSG pro yet but I've found I can put it in wet, damp or dry hair. I smooth on and scrunch up. I can use the MF towel to scrunch out the excess moisture afterwards but then I'd always apply a little more of the FSG or KCCC or at least my curl smoothie to finish it off. But the smoothing on and scrunching up I think is a preference thing because I prefer my hair to clump. If I try to rake product, hell, any product in my hair gets huge (massive pyramid effect) because the curls are skinnier. I think you can apply it any way and it sounds like you're doing what works for you. So far I've found personally that applying it to dry hair as a refresher is my favorite way to use it. It's just so fast!

Oh, I'm laughing at your boyfriend comment because I felt much the same when my FSG came out so thick this time. I'm all hmm. . . what the heck do I do with this plant-smelling little slimeball I've created? Also the men in my life have been looking at me funny too since I've been telling them how to define their waves and curls. . .

They sell Knox unflavored gelatin in little packets, 4 to a box for around $2 at the grocery store, in the baking aisle.

Not sure about the preservatives, but I always remember the FSG in the fridge because I stumble down the kitchen to make coffee and then I pull my my juice out of the fridge so the FSG is there, staring at me as if to say, "Let's make it happen!" (Put it next to your juice, I'd say. Or eggs.)

Do you mix the coconut oil with anything else in your hair (say a styler, or a leave in) that has a protein or drying ingredient, because if so that might be why. Coconut oil doesn't have any protein in it because it's been separated. It's all fat, no protein. But it does allow stuff to better penetrate the hair shaft. And if you're using it to seal and then maybe putting a mousse or gel over it (which can be very drying pending on the ingredients) that might by why. If you're using it to deep treat and using it just by itself without mixing anything else and it's still drying your hair out then I don't know but I'd leave it out of my hair. Everybody's hair is different and sometimes it hates a particular ingredient for whatever reason. Wish I knew why.

I also use a mesh strainer, but the idea with pantyhose is cool.

You might want to try the coconut oil on your skin. That way it won't go to waste. (It's really good for my dry skin.) Or just eat it. It's great for Thai food!

Not sure how much gelatin you'd put in the FSG. . . how much Jas? You could just make the gelatin separately and then add it in until you get the desired consistently. Whatever gelatin is leftover use it for a PT.

Does anyone know of a product you could add to the FSG so i don't have to refrigerate? Also, what does aloe vera do for hair?

Aloe vera is great for sealing and balancing the PH of your hair. Particularly porous hair. It's also moisturizing.

For a "regular" batch of FSG, I think it's 2tsp, more or less as desired. (I make a different recipe that uses a whole pack of gelatin, but then my hair LOVES protein/gelatin!)

Just Knox unflavored, or the generic version of it.

Sheesh, isnt there some place to buy this stuff? I am NOT cooking my own hair products! No offense meant to those who do. Really, I would like to know if you can buy this without cooking it up on the stove - next thing ya know, Ill be making my own soap and candles too - gotta draw the line somewhere...where's that prozac...
