Rockin Ringlets is the same thing! It's just cheaper to make it!

On another note, I raked my leave-in into my hair today, focusing on lifting my hair up and away from my scalp. Usually, I follow by one last, short dunk under the shower to get the clumps back together. I skipped that part, and just got out of the shower and scrunched in FSG. The FSG slurped the clumps back together, but I have great root volume and waviness up to the roots today! Usually my hair gets a little plastered to the top of my head. Yay!

Have you tried biosilk Rock hard gelee, herbal essence set me up, or Aussie instant freeze as hard hold gels over your FSG? Those are my 3 faves.

2. How do you apply it, in general? Just scrunch? Do you rake it in? Do you smooth it in? I have been scrunching it in, but I'm debating whether this is the best way.

Dusa & Jules - your hair is absolutely gorgeous! So shiny and curly!

On researching the best application method for FSG, I came across several sites that said to use more than you would of regular gel and to smooth it on and then scrunch to get the curls going. That is how I do it. I think it gives better coverage that way.

I wonder what preservative those FSG products have in them that make them able to reside outside the fridge. That should answer that question right there. . .

flippalicious, for me I don't use any hard hold gel over the FSG and the curls hold very well, if that helps. Also KCCC has a very light hold itself. I mean, you can use more but that might weigh your curl/wave pattern down. I use just enough to get a slight gel cast that unfurls on its own as they day goes on.

BRHG= Biosilk Rock Hard Glue, for me...That stuff is HARD! maybe my low porousity hair does not absorb it and it just sits there -
That could be, Myrna, but it can be pretty hard for me, too! But I use LI and oils, and mixing that BRHG with the SM smoothie seemed to tone down the super crunch!

I like some crunch, but sometimes if I OD on the BRHG (or use it on too... Towel scrunched hair), I almost can't SOTC!

It's not just the low porosity girls. My hair didn't like it either. Like Jas said, I only tried it once (thankfully it wasn't mine so I didn't have to purchase) and I used very little but it's really intense, isn't it? I really don't like crunch.

I always use a TINY amount - a pea or two - and mix it with oil or condish or something to "cut" the crunch.

It also tends to work out better in the summer.

My hair is almost elbow length and dense, and I usually use lots of gel, etc. But with BRHG I have to keep it light!

Hmm, interesting. I like my hair to dry with some crunch because I walk about 10 minutes to work every day, and I leave the crunch in for my walk. I think it decreases the frizz, since it's usually windy and my hair gets whipped around a lot. I immediately scrunch it out once I get to work.

I have really short hair right now, so I wonder how little BRHG I would need to use. Worth looking into!

And Jules- thanks for the tip! I might try it that way soon. I am going to go through my normal routine this morning because I'm about to head to my first curly haircut. Eee, hopefully it goes well!!

So update: this morning I "refreshed" by "petting" my hair with water, then petting and scrunching in a 50/50 mix of SM smoothie and water. I rewet my hands and added some SM soufflé, since it had flax in it. (Small amounts of product for both).

I gently scrunched with a flour sack towel... The top is only about a 2c, but the ends are more 3a!

I'm wondering how FSG would do, maybe mixed with tiny amounts of these two products?

As soon as I can whip up a batch of regular FSG I'll give it a shot and report back!

So I just got my haircut, and funny story... my stylist asked how I got so my curls to be so defined, and I was too embarrassed to tell him I had gel made out of flax seeds in my hair, lol!

But I have to say, plain old flax seed gel works 10x better than the expensive Deva products that are currently in my hair. I actually think my stylist was a little disappointed with how my hair came out vs. how it was when I came in. But I *really* like the cut, just not this Deva gel! I almost want to wash my hair right now and start over!! Maybe I'll try to use the FSG on my currently dry hair right now... haven't experimented with that yet!

I love the fsg. HG for me. Can't be without it.
I use fsg, then sm soufflé and then KCCC. Sometimes I can't sotc! It's actually a problem I've been having lately. Wondering if I should stop adding the KCCC? I don't think I need it, I just found it added curl if applied at 50% wet/dry. My hair is quite curly enough w/o it now.

Do any of you have the thread that has a ton of FSG recipes in it bookmarked? Or remember what it's called?

I thought it was called "What's in your FSG?" or "What's your FSG recipe?", and it has pages and pages of different recipes. I am going INSANE trying to find it (why does this forum search not do Boolean searching?! gahh)

Any help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I'm off to buy some EOs for a new batch!

I got the title stuck in my head. But, in reality, the link you provided has all the recipes I was looking to read. Thanks!! I guess I was confusing the two threads.

Today I managed to convince my Mom to let me style her hair properly. No mousse or gel but just a dab of SM Curl & Style Milk, a dab SM Curl Enhancing Smoothie, then plenty of FSG. Then I forced her to air dry and threatened that if she even dared try and throw her lovely waves up in a bun or touched them during the drying process I would physically harm her. (JK. Well. . . I was stern. Let us leave it at that.) Anyways it worked out and she liked the results so I took a picture. It's definitely wavier than it usually is. She's usually a 2A-2B with a straight underlayer but today it looked 2C at parts with a 2B/2Aish underlayer. By the way if anyone has any tips for me on how to make her underlayer more wavy do tell.

im really new to this fsg thing, i might try and go buy some seeds sometime but i need to clear some things up. right, so how long should you boil for, for the best results if you dont want too thick, or too thin? how many seeds do you put in and how much water? can you re use the seeds more than once, if so how many times? lastly, if you dont put oil in your fsg, how long will it last? please answer, thanks
