Advice for indecisive hair needed!

Hi all!

I was wondering if anyone out there could give me some advice on how to care for and maintain my hair. I've tried a variety of things but cant seem to find the right continuous trick.

In its best condition i would describe my hair as having a very loose curl that falls in rope-like locks (it kind of wraps its self around its self if that makes sense?) Otherwise it can be described as various degrees of wavey dependant on the day - from medium deep S waves to almost straight with a slight kink here and there.

It is also easily marked or bent by hair bands/braiding and the roots get oily very fast if left in a ponytail/braid or under a hat too long.

I do have a lot of problems with frizz and insane amounts of split-ending all the way up the shaft of the hairs (especially on the underside) but its mostly healthy looking, shiny, strong and every hairdresser ive been to in the last 4 years at least have told me its in great shape.

Also, in terms of texture, it has everything from thick and coarse hairs to very fine flyaway ones.

It is currently mid back length.

Any tips on how to deal with it and getit looking its best would be very welcome! (also tips on how to sleep with it if you have any that would be suitable)

Thank you all!
Whoa! Your post was long and all over the place so I'll try to reply piece by piece! :-)

1. In its best condition i would describe my hair as having a very loose curl that falls in rope-like locks (it kind of wraps its self around its self if that makes sense?) Otherwise it can be described as various degrees of wavy dependent on the day - from medium deep S waves to almost straight with a slight kink here and there.:

I too, and I think most people do, have a mixture of curl sizes, patterns, and hair textures. Are you looking for a more uniform look overall? I'm actually ok with it being obvious that the back of my head curls much better than the front, but some people don't care for that. You try a skip curl, finger coils, or a roller/rod set to get a look that works for you. I recently "discovered" that the shape plays a lot into the overall appearance and have been considering a Deva-type cut. Either way, conditioning (moisture) is the best way to get all curls to be on their best behavior

2. It is also easily marked or bent by hair bands/braiding and the roots get oily very fast if left in a ponytail/braid or under a hat too long.:

I don't do ponytails or hats so I can't really add anything helpful here. I imagine the sebum collects due to the inability to move around?

3. I do have a lot of problems with frizz and insane amounts of split-ending all the way up the shaft of the hairs (especially on the underside) but its mostly healthy looking, shiny, strong and every hairdresser I've been to in the last 4 years at least have told me its in great shape.:

Back to condition. You should try doing a DT at least once a week, followed by sealing. Also, get rid of splits as much as you can. That can only lead to breakage. I personally feel like the winter is a double whammy due to cold, dry air and my scarf getting caught up on my ends. I even find fibers stuck in there while detangling. That may be an issue with you too, with respect to splits and frizz.

4. Also, in terms of texture, it has everything from thick and coarse hairs to very fine flyaway ones.:

That is what it is. Your texture is not something (in my experience) you can change.

5. Any tips on how to deal with it and get it looking its best would be very welcome! (also tips on how to sleep with it if you have any that would be suitable):

I do not care to wrap, pineapple, or bonnet my hair at night. I do however sleep on a satin pillowcase. It's a hair saver!

I hope I caught everything!
