Light products that can give volume?

So, everything weighs my hair down. I hate it. Does anyone know of any product I can use alone that will control frizz and not weigh my hair down? I don't like using more than one product because it weighs me down. Lately I have been using AG re:coil but it doesn't control my frizz. It does define my curls though. If it helps, I have 2c/3a fine hair with low porosity and a high density of it.

Winter has been giving me droopy curls + longer hair = absolutely no volume. SO what I have been doing is, cut down on leave in conditioner, no matter what I use weights my hair down and started using Curl Keeper. I used to hate that product, but now its like Magic. It gives me clumps, curl definition and it doesnt weigh my hair down. HTH

I've been wondering too if a filter for my shower would help. Where I live 85% of the water in this area is hard water. I was looking at homedepot.com and saw that I can get a sprite shower filter for $40. I'm wondering if I should try it or keep trying products :dontknow::scratch:

I just bought the CHS CK can't wait to try it. It's water based so it doesn't weigh your hair down. There's a review on YouTube and that's all she used and her hair came out really pretty she added volume by using the root clips which are not too pricey from the same company.

Also you can try mousse. I don't think it'll weigh your hair down but still help with the frizz and give you volume.

PS: Hilarious photo LOL

Wow her hair is gorgeous! As u can see from my pic I def wish I had her hair lol

rapunzel4ever 03-04-2013 01:05 AM

You could try a gelmousse, it has the hold of a gel and the airyness of a mousse. I use that when dews are +40F. (Below that dp I find any kind of mousse drying on my hair.)

I'm dying to try the curl keeper but I want to see if someone will be selling theirs in the swap board so I don't have to risk paying full price and not liking it. That happens to me all the time and I can't afford it anymore lol

sammyantha 03-04-2013 02:17 AM

I second the curl keeper suggestion, I have 2c/3a too and ck is now a must have for me! Frizz free curls that aren't weighed down, can't rave about it enough!! I combine it with the sm curl smoothie for definition and moisture but you may find that too heavy.

You and I both lol my hair is too heavy to ever look that big at the roots :(

I had the same problem I kept looking at the swap boards for a while before I found one at a decent price. You can always purchase the smaller bottle at curlmart whenever you buy another product.

any in particular that you recommend?? i've been having good results with SSCEJ, but I need another product for hold, I like the Giovanni Magnetic Styling Gel for adding shine & taming frizz/flyaways but when I've been using gel to scrunch, my hair feels icky.

Have you tried CIAB? My hair is nothing like yours but CIAB is good at taming frizz and giving my curls definition.

I can never get that much volume in my roots either. My hair is fine but I have a lot of it (so I've been told my whole life lol I just came to the realization recently) so it gets weighed down. I just bought a bottle of curl keeper for $9 and change (including shipping) so I can't wait to try it! I'll try it alone first then with re:coil :smilebox:

Curlswirl 03-04-2013 02:34 PM

Will Curl Keeper work alone or for hold do I also need to use gel?

Myrna 03-04-2013 08:03 PM

Good question. I cant use it alone.

anonymous_133347 03-04-2013 08:49 PM

I wanted to try curl keeper and ordered it but it arrived tampered with (some of the product missing) and I just never bothered to reorder it or threw out the bottle. I'm very paranoid about stuff like that. . . Although now from my limited experience I'd say my hair doesn't like hard hold gels, loves gellies and creams, and serums have potential. So maybe I should reorder it. . . I prefer a light hold too because there's nothing worse than a producty look or a cripsy curl. Except maybe a crispy droopy curl.

Oh Skorpio, I am dying of laughter thanks to that photo.

Hey! Those are the clips I bought at the salon that I have no idea what to do with! So I have to grab at the root? Won't that kill whatever little root curl I do get though? Do you have those clips already LLC? If so please tell me how to use them.

longlivecurls 03-04-2013 09:03 PM

Good luck skorpio can't wait to try mine. Should arrive Thursday or Friday :)

Curlswirl - I think it depends on your curl type and hair texture. If you have thick hair that needs a lot of hold or a curl type that loosens up easily you will need another styling product over it like a gel, jelly or mousse. The girl in the video has fine hair so I know I will definitely need a gel lol. I am purchasing CHS gel so will see how that works out.

theresa.bedf 03-04-2013 09:06 PM

I tried applying products with my head hanging down, plopping for 15 minutes, and then clipping hair at roots this weekend. I loved the volume it gave me at the crown. The plopping helped the hair begin drying away from the scalp. With clipping be sure the clip goes in vertical and not horizontal. It's all interesting and worth a try.

From the video she says you have to be gentle and clip it really close to your scalp so I don't think it'll disrupt your root curl, but unfortunately I don't have them so I really don't know. I'm wondering if they sell them at beauty stores. I would like to purchase them. Dusa how much did they cost at the salon?
