Default Must I choose between volume and frizz?

When I diffuse my hair until almost dry I get really good root lift and volume but sometimes get frizz.

Is there a trick to diffusing to minimize frizz? I diffuse with my head upside down and am touching the diffuser to the scalp while I move the diffuser in and out. Is this the right way to diffuse?

Thanks!

Currently using-
any shampoo that we have on hand
Pantene normal-thick conditioner
Giovanni Leave-in Conditioner
Rockin Ringlets
Beyond The Zone mega hold gel from Sally's
Color treated to cover gray

My hair loves it when I use Coconut Oil as a leave-in treatment the night before I wash it.

Diffuse 2-3 minutes
