How much hair do you lose a day?

If you had to guesstimate. I know it's hard to tell since most of us don't brush but give it a go! I got my hair cut in early February and while I love the shape and how much lighter it feels I miss the three inches of length I lost. (I realize I've already regained at least half an inch by now but because of the layers and curl shrinkage it doesn't quite feel that way yet.) So yes I want my hair back to my original length and I also want to retain length so every time I see a hair fall it annoys me. I'd say I'm losing less than the standard 100 a day though. Especially after going CG. If I was a betting woman I'd put it at 50.

Ugh, really hard to say because I have felt like I lose more than I should for the last few years. My shower is covered. I do think my clothes are less covered since going curly, but honestly I think that's because I am not touching my hair. I think I'm losing an equal amount when I finger detangle in the shower. It's a little scary to me how much comes out, tangles are a nemesis of mine.

I had a bad case of the stomach flu and lost definitely half of my hair over two months. I would say I lost around 200 hairs every time I showered (every second day). When I was combing and detangling in the shower it seemed to never stop. Out of the shower I kept losing hair, and lots of it. Just going through my hair with my hands was crazy...

ANYWAYS, now that that is all over I, and now that I have shorter hair, I lose like 3 hairs in the shower . I counted. I'm sure a lot more are just falling out without me noticing, but it's nice not to have strands and strands coming out. Ugh.
I used to shed furballs that would put any housecat to shame. It used to creep me out, but then the stylist I went to regularly - for blowouts - told me that with curly hair it was totally normal, especially when you have so much of it like I do, so I stopped worrying. The very first day I tried the CG method I lost a maximum of 20 hairs and it's kept steady since. I think it's that it now detangles more easily and so I dont have to yank with all my might to get a comb through. I was so sad for my hair when I realized this because it obviously is not normal.
I was curious so once I actually (gross, I know) counted the hairs that collected in the drain. There was 48 hairs there.

I don't know how many, but I hear "mom, come get your squirrel out of the tub" every night before my son's bath, lol. One thing I LOVE about doing my routine upside down in the shower is I no longer have to spend 5 minutes at the end getting all the hair off my body and out of my butt crack (TMI, I KNOW!).

Hair that freely borrows from 3a/ 3b texture schools. These are the things I use to care for it:
  • Apple Cider Vinegar rinses weekly
  • shampoos occasionally that do not contain sulfates
  • conditioners without silicones or proteins (or so I think- Keratin seems to do ok)
  • Flour sack towel
And I dont even know what else right now...thinking I may need to drop gels altogether...

Currently have Shea Moisture and DevaCurl products that I may just need to give up on and cut as a loss...
I do lose quite a bit of hair. I would guess probably about 100 strands. It's kinda scary sometimes.

Hehehe somebody said butt crack. Hehehe.

Oh god this is funny. Before I started CG I used to have hair matting down my breasts and getting caught in my belly button stud when I showered. Well, that still happens on occasion, but not to the extreme it did.

So I washed my hair last night and counted my hairs. Lost about 22 (one or two might've escaped down the drain but I was careful), but I think that might be less than usual because I deep treated. Also the reason why I suspect I lose more hair than that on a day to day basis is because I still find it everywhere. Not nearly as bad as it was before CG when I had to whip out the mini vacuum all the time but still, it's there. On the stairway. In the kitchen floor underneath the cabinets. On the yoga mat. In and around the bathroom sink. Actually that's a no brainer because I "refresh" (and therefore finger comb) my hair there.

Anybody have any tips for retaining length? I'm using castor oil in my deep treatments now so that helps I think. Grow hair, grow!

(Word to the wise, best deep treatment I've found to date: 1 tsp each of castor, olive, coconut, grapeseed, avocado oil along with 1 tbsp honey and 2 tbsp Shea Moisture's restorative condtioner. At the end of the hour when I rinsed it out my hair was showering me with curls, I mean--gratitude. )

Oh and thank you all. It's so good to know I'm not alone in the hairball and tangles department. I just keep telling myself it's completely normal to shed hair and to not sweat it. It's not like I don't have a ton more hair on my head. . . But still! Why must we shed at all? And I also don't buy that curly hair should shed more. That's why we have to be very careful to not let it get too tangled between washes.
