Eco Styler Argan Oil Gel - Experiences or thoughts?

Like Tree1Likes

I bought some of this at Sally's earlier this week to try. My first impression was "Wow! that is a thick gel and kind of sticky feeling." I was doubtful that it would work and was upset because I really wanted too results. But, The two times I have applied it over my LI (Yes to Carrots) and FSG, I was impressed. Almost no frizz, good curl formation and hold! I think the trick is to apply it to soaking wet hair.

I actually asked about this myself! I only got one reply but oh well. I am loving it and it will last me ages. The trick is to use it over somwthing moisturizing like you said. You don't need much and you want to use it on dripping wet hair. Today I usually use tresemme naturals underneath for my LI but today I used shape shifter (a moisturizing curl creme). Then I put it over top-you only need a small blob if you want your curls softer. You can also just do it the traditional way and break the gel cast. I am loving it though and it seems like it will last ne forever too.

One of my reservations was the comments on here about how sticky and thick it is.
I'm 3a and if you have had good results with this, maybe I'll check it out.
For now, I'm stocked up on Garnier Pure Clean gel - not as cheap as eco but still FAR less expensive than Deva gel.
thanks
I think it's a quality product. It gives me great curls. Too bad it drys my hair out. (Stupid coarseness!)

Dusalocks how often do you wash your hair? I want to buy more kinky curly/shea moisture products and you seeme to have hair similiar to mine. Thanks!!

But yes sdkitty I thought the same thing and I haven't had that drying experience but I have heard that a lot. I would reccomend ysing it on soaking wet hair with a moisturizing leave in. It makes my curls really pop. However I have not tried the pure clean so I cannot compare it. Its very thick stuff. Like if you open the tub and flip it over the stuff is not gonna fall out haha. I have heard a lot of people like the olive oil one too and aome say its a bit lighter.its a steal for 3 bucks its a steal though (I got it on sale). You can buy the little sample jars too if you don't wanna have a lot of product lying around to try it out.

left white balls in my hair no matter what leave in i used. it was awful. all the ecos do this to me
Every other day. Or every other other day. Usually it's co-wash, co-wash, then low-poo but sometimes it's co-wash, tea tree tingle treatment on scalp + water wash, then low-poo. I think I could make it to day 4 hair though. It's just that I like to do some cardio every other day so I have to shower.

I feel like I should say I tried the argan gel with both SM curl & style milk and kinky curly knot today as a leave in. I think it was slightly less dry with the curl & style milk. Again, it's not the product that's bad. It's just my hair appears to hate wheat protein.

Okay girls get ready for what I am about to say. I added olivee oil to my Ecostyler and whipped it up. The result was a whipped pudding type product and it looks kind of like a conditioner like consistency now. I will try it out tomorrow and see what happens.
Thanks dusa locks!!! Yeah I do workout too so it can be an issue sometimes. Idoes kccc take a long time to dry? And do you airdry? Sorry for all yhe questions. I actually have the shea moisture curl and shine kit at home. Do you like sm conditioners? I may try them out.

How did you whip it up? In a blender? With a wire whisk or an egg beater? Sounds interesting. I'd like to change the consistency of some of my hair products. Maybe then I could make the AIF work for me. . .

Um, my hair drys very fast for some reason. Could be the weather combined with my high porosity. And honestly the roots dry the fastest so I know it's natural and not due to damage. I'd say with KCCC my hair is dry in 90 minutes to 2 1/2-3 hours depending on how wet my hair is when I apply it. Sopping wet takes longer like maybe 3 hours. Halfway dry/fairly damp is 90 minutes. Although after testing out other products (gels primarily) I do have to say KCCC increases my drying time, but not by much. Yes, I airdry because it's the healthiest option and I was trying to get my hair back in shape. Also I don't have a good blowdryer or a good diffuser. I've recently decided on getting the Conair inifiti dryer though so I'm excited to see if I can achieve root curl with blowdrying. I still aim to air dry 90% of the time though.

Oh my goodness, I simply adore Shea Moisture. My hair is very dry so it eats that line up. I haven't tried the Coconut and Hibiscus Co-wash but I like everything I've tried so far, including the conditioners. (The smoothie is my favorite product though of the line.) The Restorative Conditioner is great for DTs and to add to my hair when it's extra dry. (I mix it with my regular co-wash because the RC does not have that much slip.) The Yucca Baobab Conditioner has vegetable protein but doesn't dry me out and seem to give my roots more volume when I use it. I also like the shampoos because they're very gentle. I use either one every week, once a week. So far the only product I haven't been so keen on is the Coconut & Hibiscus Mousse but I need to try it on me because both times I tried to style my mother's wavy hair with it (she is my guinea pig) she messes it up by putting her hair in a bun and stretching out her waves. I keep telling her she's disrupting her natural (and very delicate!) curl pattern but she's stubborn. I'm going to try it out on myself though. Maybe the mousse isn't all that bad.

I love it. It provides excellent curl definition. It has a light scent that doesn't send my allergies haywire. I use it on soaking wet hair daily over conditioner (either Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curling Milk or Ology White Pear & Cucumber). My hair is soft. The only prob is it takes forever to dry but once it does my hair looks great. I have tried the Crystallized and it's ok...don't like the scent. My hair scoffs at the olive oil version.

Here is my hair after it is 100% dry.

Nice definition! Thanks I probably won't try the others then. I can become quite a pj.

And dusalocks I used a wire whisk because I thought it would be easier and I would not have a hard tim we removing product from the blender. Well I will have to try some more shea moisture then!! And I have heard about the new mousse. I air dry and plop myself. However to prevent damage when I am in a rush I diffuse at cool setting. I think kinky curly will be a good option for me over summer. Have fun "whipping" things up lol - I know lame joke haha. Thanks for the info and are you gonna be changing the routine for summer wtc.? I dont know much about dew points. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Yeah wire whisk sounds like your best bet. I don't plan on changing my routine for the summer. Where I live summer isn't that different from winter. Just hotter and dryer. So if anything I'll deep treat more, I think. Try to do it weekly if I can. It's an optimum curl week though on the frizz forecast so my hair is happy today. You've inspired me though. I'm going to ask other curlies who live in arid climates how they fare in the summer.

Aww thanks dusalocks! I have actually seen you post a lot and I am one of your biggest fans!! I am so glad I have inspired you! Do message me and keep me updated when you find stuff cauae I think youay be a hair twin! I thought you might alyernate products cause a lot on here do. I will be washing my hair with shea moisture kit I was talking about. I may have to agree abouy the ecostyler maybe being an issue. I am not sure if I am protein sensitive so I may just stay away to be safe. Any other product reccomendations? I have some kckt and am wondering if I should use it in conjunction with other kc ptoducts. I'm basically trying to rid myself of all my not so natural products.

I haven't tried the argan version, but I love Eco styler. I didn't like it at first, but after I learned how to scrunch out the crunch it's awesome. My hair can actually be really soft after using it.

I had been using it with Paul Mitchell The Conditioner which gave me great results, but I tried it today with Shea Moisture H&SM and CES, so far so good (except initial whiteness) although my hair is very controlled looking right now.

Knock on wood the protein hasn't bothered me yet, my hair isn't naturally coarse, but it was overloaded.

Dusalocks, I tried the Shea Moisture Co-Wash this morning, and I like it! I haven't tried many co-washes, but it got the Eco styler out, my hair felt clean, and it was decent for detangling.
I thought all of the coconut & hibiscus line had silk protein, but I don't see it on the bottle of the co-wash.

The curling milk has silk protein, coconut oil (which is also protein) and, neem oil.

Is it a bad thing or a good thing that I post so much I've found myself a fan?

I'm gonna go with "good thing".

Ecostyler is so inexpensive that it's worth a try, I think. I am protein sensitive when it comes to wheat protein, but you may not be. Sometimes people's properties can be the same or similar and they can still react to a product differently, right? Other factors like your particular body/hair chemistry and the weather might play a role. If, however, we're true hair twins, wheat protein drys my hair out so tread carefully. I do alternate products a little, but mostly stick to KCCC and KCKT as the base for everything. They just make my hair feel so soft and hydrated. But I can substitute the SM milk or smoothie as a leave in as well as using them for refreshing. Also my CJ PP is good for styling and hold too, just not as hydrating as KCCC. And so far for me FSG is the best refresher and styler ever. How great that I can make it myself.

Spiralspunk, I keep waiting to see the cowash at Target. I'm so jealous you got a hold of it already. The silk protein in the smoothie and the milk don't bother me so I wouldn't mind if it was in the co-wash. (I think I'm only sensitive to specific proteins.) Nevertheless, it might be good it isn't since conditioner is such a penetrating product, right? Also coconut oil has never bothered me on its own because it is protein free (the protein has been removed). So I'm sure if there's coconut in the co-wash it should be A-OK.

Aw, gee thanks. (Major blush here.) But I'm not even a curl vet like Kathymack and Jas76. (Jas is such a pro, by the way. I curl stalk her.) I've only been at this less than five months. But looking at how many posts I've accumulated in such a short amount of time it looks like I'm trying to play catch up, doesn't it? Well I blame it on the fact that I've never been on a forum before. I had no idea they were so much fun! And the advice dispensing doesn't stop at the boards either. Yesterday I told another wavy haired friend she should come on here and lose herself to the big black hole that is naturally curly. Once you've been sucked in there's no hope of getting out.
