This is how my hair USED to look - and I want it back!

I dont remember what I did, what products I used; I realize it was way shorter. I know I diffused it that day with a hot sock, and a professional photographer took the pic, but that was the best hair day of my life, and I dont flippin' know how to get it like that now. I was definitely NOT CG then. I am using this pic temporarily to get ideas and thoughts from my curlfriends here.

elizard 03-18-2013 07:49 AM

can you put the pic in the post? it's really hard to see in the profile pic.

Myrna 03-18-2013 08:25 AM

I dont know how to do that..

Jessiebanana 03-18-2013 08:36 AM

Hit that little picture of a mountain. Copy and paste the URL and it will do all the work for you.

Myrna 03-18-2013 08:56 AM

when I hit that icon, the triangle, it tells me to report a post, which I have used to report spam....

elizard 03-18-2013 09:05 AM

i don't keep my pictures on a hosted site. i keep them on my computer, so i find it easiest to attach the pictures. in order to do so, you cannot hit quick reply. if you hit reply to post, you get a lot of options that pop up over the top of the text box. when you mouse over them, a description will pop up. the one you want is attachments, which looks like a paper clip. a box will open, and you click on "choose file." from there, you navigate you where you keep your pics on your computer and choose the one you want. then click upload and you're good to go.

Jessiebanana 03-18-2013 09:22 AM

Not the triangle...the picture of the mountain in between the thought bubble and the globe.

You can also hit the Manage Attachments button, under Additional Options if you need to upload straight from your computer.

I am not sure my pic will show up here or not...

Myrna 03-18-2013 04:27 PM

SO, OK that only took 30 minutes to figure out...if you click on the attachment, it will enlarge. TIA.

My hair used to look a bit like that. I mostly got it from combing through my products when my hair had the excess water blotted out (wetter then damp, but not soaking wet, you know what I mean?). Then I'd scrunch and either air dry or diffuse (didn't matter either way).

Myrna 03-18-2013 05:28 PM

What kind of hair do you have, Mojo? because before I knew about scrunching in products, i used the rake technique, and I may have done that then...

Thank you so much, but I cant get them to look like that now!

jsuzkelley 03-18-2013 06:43 PM

Hi Myrna :) What a beautiful picture! I think you're right that the extra length you have now may be part of the issue (I always lose volume and curl with length). I'm also wondering if their could be an issue with product weighing down your curls? I don't remember what you said your routine is, but maybe an occasional clarifying wash would help?

Myrna 03-18-2013 07:42 PM

My routine has been that I have been using SM moisture retention and coconut hibiscus; different conditioners, including GVP Shea Cashmere, Cure Care and more recently, Yes to Tomatoes; then I have been using a mousse and gel combo. then I clip up my hair and let it air dry. I did not used to clip and air dry, and the day that pic was taken, I know I diffused, and probably with a hot sock, bent over. When I look at it , I can hardly believe that happened the way it did. Anyhow, right now, I have a lot of length in the back, which may be pulling down some of the curl, so I am going to talk with my stylist about leveling it off, also because I think it may be more flattering for my face, etc. Today I shampood with Yes to Cucumbers, which has coco betaine, and I liked the results. I am beginning to wonder about the SM shampoos, at least as a regular diet of t hem, but you see, I wash every day. So! I dont know. But, Jsuzkelly, thank you so much for the compliment.

jsuzkelley 03-18-2013 09:43 PM

Hmmm...it could be that you need something a little stronger than the SM shampoo once in a while. It may not be your products alone either - I have hard water and need to clarify occasionally for that reason. And diffusing definitely pumps up the volume - but I would hate to have to do that every day. You could try diffusing for just a few minutes, but not all the way - see if that kicks up the curls a little without adding too much extra work.

curleeangel 03-19-2013 05:39 AM

Have you tried the pixie diffusing technique?

Myrna 03-19-2013 07:21 AM

Well, I USED to diffuse my hair. However, I honestly dont have the patience to pixie diffuse; AND, I hate my diffuser. I think putting hot plastic on my hair doesnt help it. I have had better luck with a hot sock. But, my diffuser is not a "bowl", like professional diffuser, it came with the dryer, and the dryer works fine, so I dont want to buy another. I went to Sally one time to see if I could get a bowl diffuser but it did not fit on my dryer. But see, I use these CHS roller Jaw clips - in theory, that plus air drying should give me great volume - its not just the difference in volume, it is the difference in the kind of curl! I went from 2C/3A to 3A/3B, and I am not pleased!

I can use clips until I'm blue in the face and I still won't get the same amount of volume that diffusing gives me. Believe me, I tried. For 2 years. I use this type of finger diffuser at high heat but low air output (this is key for me) and concentrate on my roots/crown. I use the fingers of the diffuser to lift up and out a bit, going over different areas repeatedly until the gel/mousse/whatever has "set". One it has set and is partially dried, I air-dry the rest of the way. This is the only way I get volume, and it gives me incredible volume without fail.

elizard 03-19-2013 07:57 AM

Myrna, I don't know how recent your previous avatar picture was, but I thought your hair looked great in that one. Maybe I looked at it wrong, but it looked like you had a very long angled bob. Dunno if that was an optical illusion, but you may want to try a cut like that. It looks great both ways, just different looks. The curls you used to have in this thread do appeared to be more brushed out.
