Does anybody time their washes to prevent tangling?
Do you guys find the longer you wait to wash the more tangled your hair gets? So I was due to wash my hair last night but since my friend called wanting to meet up instead of washing it after I did my cardio I put on a shower cap, showered, then got out and dampened and restyled, scrunching in a bit more product for the second time that day. This morning I had to go again so I fixed my hair, but noticed it was next to impossible to finger comb and thought oh man this is going to be a pain tonight. And it was. My hair was dry. Dry dry dry dry DRY and so tangled. It usually doesn't get like this unless I use something my hair doesn't like such a drying gel or wheat protein. Seeing as how my hair ate about a 1/4 of a bottle of conditioner I'm thinking I may need to get an emergency super duper moisturizing conditioner with mega slip for times such as these. Also I lost a lot of hair merely from detangling. It was not fun.

Dusa,
i usually go no no more than every other day for washes for that reason. I am such a mobile sleeper that I'd have one big mat if I didn't. I do try to use a sleep cap, but the last two times I wore one, I wake up without it on and find it on the floor next to my bed as if I took it off and threw it to the floor.

That might be it. The mobile sleeper thing. I'm not exactly thrashing but I probably do move my head. I know I should try a sleeping cap but I can't even tolerate pineappling because the weight atop my head gives me a headache. (I realize that's probably psychosomatic but I've got a lot of hair.) I do have a silk pillowcase though. Oh well. Now I've learned my lesson. Never again. Every other day. It's probably also because I was running and bouncing around yesterday night and my hair got more tangled in the process too. Might also be stress affecting my hair maybe. I've had a long week.
Another question: I noticed from the ton of hair I lost when I was detangling that the individual strands are really curly now, even when wet. Could it also be my hair is getting curlier from the CG method and so it wraps around itself more, causing tangles? You guys should've seen the clumps I woke up with this morning. They were huge and so difficult to pick apart. I would've left them but they weren't all clumping the right way. It was like. . . pasta hair. Or Pastafarian hair.

I have that issue, my hair can do pretty good upto 3rd day hair. if I try to take 4th day or 5th day hair, its tangly city, and I stand in the shower 30mins trying to get through the tangles!!
Also, as much as I love to wash my hair every 3 days, I dont have the patience and it takes about a day for my hair to dry. Its like I get good hair days from 2nd day on if that makes sense. So I cant wash my hair frequently, such a pain especially with hip length hair
So what I do is -on the 4th day, I take hand full of Suave conditioner and some oil(cocunut or Olive) and slather it on my hair, (not rake through) then braid it or Bun it.
This gives my hair the moisture it needs and doesnt get super tangly.
sometimes, the evening before I wash I detangle dry hair with cocunut oil. I shed very few this way than detangling in the shower
Hope this helps

I have personally never understood how some people can go past the 3 day mark without washing/wetting their hair. Obviously they must have different hair properties and length than me or are they super human?

CurlyIndiangirl, when you detangle with coconut oil, how much do you need? I think I might give that a try someday.
I LOVE your hair in your avatar pic, by the way.
Sheilacurl, I strongly suspect I could get to day 4 hair it's just that my exercise schedule gets in the way. What I do is I use a little product on first day hair (leave in + gel-ly) and then a little more to refresh each day thereafter. (My favorite refreshing products so far are FSG and SM's Curl Enhancing Smoothie.) That way my hair isn't overloaded with product. I use just enough to set and fix the curls. Also my scalp is pretty normal. Not dry, but just you know, it doesn't get oily really. I think that's thanks to the quality of my co-wash and low poos. They're all very gentle.

Thanks for your compliments
If you dont have dry or oily scalp, you might be able to carry out 3rd or 4th day hair without problem, atleast scalp problems.
I divide my hair in four sections and I need about a spoon of cocunut oil for each section - keep in mind that I have longer hair. I do this detangling most in evenings and not in rush ,so I take my time to detangle. Also I use a no poo mixed in water as cowash on the days I use oil, as I find that sometimes no-poo cleanses oil better than conditioner.
For some reason SM Smoothie dint work for me may be - Silk protein is the culprit?

Yep, I'm guilty of being an extra oily human being. It's confusing because they say that sulfates will cause more oil production because of the stripping effect but conditioner washing seems to add oil on top of oil. Thank goodness for lower poos, I guess!

Short answer is yes. Two day hair is about as long as I can go before it just starts looking too messy. I am not someone who will spend time on a detangling session and water will detangle my hair easily, so I just jump in the shower and start over.
FWIW, however, I just did a week with silcones and NO TANGLES the whole time. Everyday I woke up, hair looked good and felt good. I can do the more frequent washing at home, but it is good to know I have a "go to" solution, if I need it for travel or what not.
