Default Does super dry/matted and tangled hair mean I need to clarify?

My hair has been very tangled these past few days. It's freaking out on me. I can't seem to pinpoint what I've done differently other than waiting an extra day to wash this past week but I've done that before I'm sure to no great consequence. When it's wet it feels very dry but that's not due to the weather since the dew points were actually okay. I'm wondering if maybe I need to clarify to "reset" my hair but then at the same time I'm wondering if that's the best course when my hair feels this dry. It's so strange. It seemed to happen overnight.

Could it be protein overload? I would try clarifying and then do a DT.

Peut-etre. Might be I'm suddenly sensitive to silk protein since that's the only protein my hair has been exposed to. Yes, I think I'll do a deep treat then after I clarify. I think hair this dry requires olive oil or something even more potent.

Crap should I avoid my tea tree tingle? That has soy protein but it's never bothered me before? I have some Tresemme Naturals. I think I'll use that instead.

Nevermind! I only needed to clarify. That was all. Man it can be so hard to tell if your hair even has buildup when it's porous. I would never have guessed from how dry my hair felt and looked that it might've been overconditioned or had too much product in it. If anything it felt like it needed more emollients. Also, I love TJ's Tea Tree Tingle shampoo now. The first time I used it to clarify it dried my hair out but this time it was fine even without a pre-poo. And then the conditioner worked just as well, soy protein or no protein. My hair was butter in my hands and I was able to finger detangle all the way. I think I'm going to try and clarify every month from now on just to prevent this from happening again. I lost so much hair yesterday in the shower trying to plow through that mess. Today I lost four hairs.

Glad you worked it out!! I usually do a clarify/PT/DT when my hair gets that way. Or if I'm not sure what the cause is, I'll just clarify and condition well, then see how it reacts!
