Curling iron

I'm just curious as to whether or not you guys use a curling iron to touch up your hair? I feel like it is cheating for some reason...but my hair looks SOOOO much better if I use a curling iron on my bang pieces and maybe a few other random curls...am I the only curly girl who does this? Am I cheating?

I'm jealous that you can do it (I've read that that's how they make Taylor Swift's curls look so perfect at the top) but I find that curling irons do the opposite to my hair - when I pull away the iron I get a straight piece with a little wave at the bottom (and not in a good way!). It doesn't help my hair curl at all!

Yeah I have to use very low heat and do it extremely quickly for that to not happen! Luckily as my hair has Oren longer it has become straighter towards the top so it blends in:)

You may laugh but yes, I actually used one last month before I went to a job interview. I normally tousle it (sometimes with spray gel) to give it curls. I didn't want to cut it so I blow-dried it, first using a round styling brush. After that I got my wife's curling iron and curled my hair, just so it would look better for a job interview. Not something I would do everyday but it actually looked better than I thought it would.

I don't think it's 'cheating', we all do what we can to make our hair look it's best. I'm sure people with straight hair don't consider it cheating to use a hairdryer and brush to make their hair look a bit more sleek or whatever.

I haven't for the last few months since starting cg, but just this week decided to start doing that. I sides are such a weak wave, one side is straight but still frizzy lucky me. So I will curl a few pieces on top, maybe 8 pieces for the total head so it matches better. My hope is to get 2nd day hair so I am not doing it as often.

Now that I have been doing curly girl for a few months, I donít have to pull out the curling too often but I will sometimes use it to fix some strays around my face. I donít always have time to start over and spritzing with water doesnít work for me. And really, it is not the zombie apocalypse Ė we can use modern gadgetry if it helps!

Haha...thanks for all the replies...I feel much better now:)

I totally agree with this. I don't use a curling iron but I do twirl some of my straighter strands around my finger before diffusing. I guess that would kind of be "cheating" too but honestly, I think you should do whatever you feel makes your hair look better.

I used to do this all the time. I'm really trying not to now to give cg a chance to do its thing, but I probably will if I'm going somewhere I need to know I will look my best, like speaking at a conference next month (lots of photos and ill be 7 months pregnant too, so looking my best will be a needed confidence boost)

I used to, to solve my "ringlets on top/waves below" issue and to curl right at my roots (one wrap, no clamp, right at the base). Since starting CG, using the right products, and getting a better (dry) hair cut, I have zero need to do it. Plus, I'm lazy and kept burning my ears...

Not cheating!

Why would you be cheating? I have 3A curly hair and I use my karmin g3 clipless curling iron very often to enhance my locks :) everything's good when it comes to styling your hair, just make sure you use a heat protector and a trustworthy hair tool :D

Jessiebanana 03-29-2013 04:12 PM

It's not cheating, but in the end for me it wouldn't be worth it. I have used a teeny tiny 1/4 curling iron, but I would never use it anymore because heat damages my hair. The part I'd curl would then become consistently fluffly and undefined and I would have to use a curling iron. No bueno.

MCoons91 03-30-2013 07:42 AM

I wouldn't really call it cheating either. I have a wand curling iron that I use occasionally because my left side curls can't quite keep up with my right side. Granted all of my hair is more curly since going cg. But I use it on the lowest heat setting on a few pieces to help out my over all look. I have a very mixed curl pattern of all 2 and some 3A so it blends nicely.
