Vacation time!

Vacations always test my sanity to see how I can handle with only my basic hair products. I think of my bin of products as my security blanket lol.

When you go on vacation what are your must haves? I know i'm bringing lots of conditioner and gel!

My hair never really looks great on vacation...oh well! Pry because I live in super dry Colorado, so my daily routine here doesn't translate well to my usually humid vacation destinations.

I'm going to Oregon for the weekend- so am only bringing a carryon. This is making my product packing hard- especially since I use mousse:( so I'm bringing small versions of both my wash out and Leave in conditioners, some sulfate free shampoo since I'm gonna use the same products each day ( as opposed to my usual daily altering between 2 sets). I put some b'leavein in a travel size bottle and am having my sister buy me a captivating curls to use there and then keep for whenever I come back.

I'm dealing with the same kind of situation except for the opposite. And i'm going from soft to hard water so Idk if my hair will freak out. I wish I could just pack everything with me just in case lol

This is a fun question! I used to just pack shampoo and got2b glued a few years ago. Even that wasn't the best as I used to diffuse my hair all the time but wasn't able to when we went camping.

If I'm going anywhere this summer I would pack travel sized shampoo and conditioner (I clarify once a week), and my leave-in conditioner. Those are my musts. I still have to see what works for me in the summer, but I am done buying products (for realz!), so it will have to be my HETT mousse, or any of the gels I own. Honestly, I'd probably choose Joico Joilotion (nobody has heard of this?!), it's the closest thing to FSG for me. :)

I'm an avid camper, so most of the time I wear a hat anyways, and my hair is chin-lengths, so I don't have much to worry about!

I usually pack:
-A sulfate free shampoo ( Loreal Evercreme)
- Gel (Eco Styler, the argan oil one)
- Aussie 3 min Miracle, because I never have time for long deep treatments and I find this conditioner comes in small packaging and adds moisture.
- Giovanni smooth as Silk deep moisture conditioner ( only if the trip is over one week)
- Kinky Curly Knot Today
- Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie
- Mixed Silk leave in, although I'm down to my last bottle and its discontinued.
- Wide tooth comb
- Microfiber towel
- lots or hair ties and clips (especially if I'm going somewhere very hot)
- heat protectant spray (just to protect my hair from the sun if I'm going to a hot sunny destination)
- boar bristle brush (in case I need to brush my hair back into a neat pony)

Love the suggestions! This is what I finally decided on bringing...

-cleanser
-conditioner
-li conditioner
-gel
-spray bottle for h2o
-sm curl and style milk
-microfiber hair towel
-satin sleep cap
-universal diffuser attachment
-duck clips

I keep rechecking my list to make sure I got everything... Why is this so stressful! Lol

I'm going to Dubai in a couple of weeks and I heard from our friends there that the water is rather hard. Our friends daughter has naturally curly hair and it is damaging her hair! They got a filter but I'm wondering if the hotels and resorts we will be staying at have water filters in the bathroom.

I am not sure what to pack for two weeks there, it's obviously very hot, the water may be hard and I don't even know how my current products will hold up...this should be interesting...

I'm thinking I may have to take a very good deep conditioner, I'm not sure if a sulfate free shampoo will be enough. Does anyone have any suggestions?

If I go to warmer countries, my hair actually looks better than at home hahaha... Normally I only bring leave in conditioner and conditioner and I wash my hair maybe once on vacation (especially if I go swimming)

Ericachristina, I am not sure about Dubai conditions in general but if the water is really hard it might be worth taking a cleanser with some chelating powers - CJ daily fix or any shampoo with any of the ingredients

Disodium EDTA
Tetrasodium EDTA
Sodium Citrate AKA Trisodium Citrate

This link gives some ideas (not sure if they are CG though) -

Thanks so much! I was worried about what the water would do to my hair. I'm modified CG but I stay away from sulfates. I just don't want to come back from the trip with dry brittle hair so ill do whatever it takes.

I was in Vegas at the end of Feb and that water was so soft it left a disgusting film on everything. Now I'm going into hard water territory....my hair is probably wondering what the heck is going on.

Hi everyone,
Okay so now im worried. I have been reading online that the water in Dubai is very hard and some travellers and residents complain about hair loss, dry hair, damage and breakage. I also read that it can clog your follicles causing hair loss and the cessation of hair growth.

I am looking forwards to this vacation but I am seriously considering washing my hair with only bottled water (maybe even bottled in another country if i can find it) when I have to and wearing protective styles the entire time. I also found out that there is silica in the air which also causes dry, brittle hair.

I will need to co wash but I'm thinking I should wear my hair in a bun and only do so with bottled water when necessary. Maybe I can refresh my curls with bottled water and leave in conditioner?? This never works very well for me but I don't want to come back with damaged hair...

Any other suggestions?
