my hair/pics

I'm attempting to grow my hair out to shoulder length. But it is so thin. I'm not sure if it will work. This is what it looks like now and I hope you can see the layers. The last stylist I went to suggested to allow the layers to grow out longer of course and just keep the ends in good shape. Will it make my hair look even thinner or would shorter layers make it look thinner?

The layers I got when I went in for my Deva Cut made my hair look fuller. It seems easier to add volume than it did previously.

I would assume that as long as they cut it right, it shouldn't cause it to go flat.

My mom has really thing hair and is a 2c/3b and has had layers for over 30 years. She said she needs them or she looks bald even with her curls.

how long are your layers and do you have alot of layers? How long is your first layer starting at the crown?
I've been getting deva trims but then decided to try a regular stylist from Aveda. She was ok and has curly hair herself. I'm so on the fence on who is going to give me the best cut for thin hair.

decided to go back to a different deva stylist. I think it needs to be reshaped. Could be why it's looking terrible right now. Left side is longer than right side for one thing. Left side curls better.
I don't think my last deva stylist had a good eye

I have thin hair like that too. and I don't think it will look so thin my curls make my hair look fuller. I have 3b hair and although I can see the thinnest if i wear my hair slick back not when it is curly and I think it will grow out nicely. I also use henna to make my hair thicker and I love how it makes my hair feel.

It shouldn't be a problem to grow your hair shoulder length. Your layers will just grow out a little bit longer, and they will probably look good where they are when your hair reaches your shoulders. You will definitely know when to touch up your layers because you will have triangle hair or one bad hair day after the next. With your cut right now though, the layers definitely help to give volume and make the hair appear fuller. I think layers with shoulder length hair will work the same way, because they won't drag down your curls and they will give your hair some body.

From my own experience, shoulder-length is very doable. But any longer than that will just look ridiculous. I have tried to grow my hair out, but it just ends up being so thin it's really not worth it.

why don't you give it a try, and if you don't like the way it looks, you'll cut it.

from the pics it looks like the top layers could easily be a little longer, so let her trim the bottom a bit as it grows. you'll see as you go along.
