I never brush or comb my hair now. That has made a big difference.

I never believed in brushing my hair while it's dry and I always applied products onto wet hair.... But what changed for me was getting rid of the silicones.... I don't use sulfates either but the silicones is what was really hindering my hair from being truly healthy.

For me it was using no heat for long periods of time. The less I use heat styling the better my hair looks and the longer and healthier it has become.

The best thing I did for my hair was not bleaching it every 4 weeks (especially no bleach over already bleached hair).

The second-best thing was: moisturize it like crazy! So co-washing instead of shampoo and use a leave-in conditioner after my rinse-out conditioner
highlighted 3a hair. Fine strands, medium to high density. Probably high porosity. Growing uit bad layering and aiming for waist lenght!

Pre-poo: coconut oil
wash: CJ Daily fix or SheaMoisture Coconut&Hibiscus
RO + LI: different every time
Styler: CJ Pattern Pusha, CJ CIAB

dislikes: glycerin in low dews, scissor happy stylists, magnesium sulfate

(modified) CG since june 25, 2012
Hiarfinity + extra MSM since March 5., 2014

Best thing I did was to stop trying to layer on multiple styling products.

I co-wash and use a rinse out. I put my leave-in on wet hair (although not soaking wet hair, I maybe squeeze my soaking wet hair once to get out a bit of the water before raking in and scrunching my leave-in) and then I plop for five minutes. I then use one styling jelly. I really love Eco Styler Olive Oil. I use a lot of it; I throw my head upside down and then scrunch in a three-finger scoop in four or five sections of my hair (and I have medium-low density hair). I plop again, with a dry MF towel, for maybe 10-15 minutes. When I remove my plop, I will move my curls around a bit so they fall correctly and then smooth/scrunch another smaller scoop of the Eco Styler jelly over the canopy. Finally, I diffuse.

This routine results in beautiful, shiny curls and no frizz. Plus, I feel like the Eco Styler is light enough (even though I use so much) that I can get great volume and root curl when I diffuse.

This routine has given me awesome second-day hair and pretty decent third-day hair. All I have to do is spray some water on the canopy, scrunch up my wet hair a bit, and go.
2C/3A, medium-fine texture, medium density, normal porosity, normal elasticity

Co-Wash: Deva No-Poo
Rinse Out: VO5 Shea Cashmere
Leave In: Kinky Curly Knot Today
Styling: Eco Styler Olive Oil

I hv 3b high porosity hair.
i found going product free n depending on natural things helpful like washing hair with sedr & acv rinse, but henna is what made a huge difference especially with porosity , it leaves my hair strong shiny and manageable.

Stop straightening my hair all together

Using coconut oil

Using as much conditioner as my hair needs

Taking hairfinity supplements

All these things really improved the health of my hair and helped me to retain all my length. My hair grows up to an 1 1/2 inch a month now and I retain all of it...unless I need a trim.

Completely eliminating all cationic surfactants & polyquats from my routine (i.e., any ingredient ending in "ium" or containing guar).

My hair is no longer coated, dull or stringy. Detangling is a more lengthy process (less artificial slip), but the end results are worth it.

I purchase products almost exclusively from online, boutique, companies now, because cationics & quats are in nearly every commercially available conditioner.

To me, the build-up caused by these ingredients is much worse than silicones ever were. I don't use 'cones either, since I avoid sulfates, but eliminating them was less than half the battle.

Trying to leave it alone as much as possible, going shampoo less, and no brushing!

Biggest thing would be brushing. I can remember when my super-curly haired friend came to me one day and said, "Do you brush you hair? Don't brush your hair. Only use a comb." Huge difference.

Recently, I managed to get my curls back by drying with a tshirt rather than a towel. I didn't know that my curls could be that many or that small!

I have type3a curls, dense but fine, high porosity.
House of Curls... how much is "more"?

I feel like if I quadrupled my conditioner my hair could not even hold that amount and would take a week to dry. Can you try to estimate by comparing to an object (golf ball size? more?)?

My hair cannot touch a t-shirt, towel, or anything absorbant before putting in my styling products. Water helps shape my curls a lot- once I scrunch, anything I add on after that seems to flatten the curls.

I don't comb after my final rinse in the shower. It messes w/ my curl pattern.

DEEP CONDITION. When my hair isn't behaving- the first thing I do is a DT.

My fine, long curls are weighed down at the crown. I have to twirl them to get any amount of curl up there.
3a/b fine, high porosity, medium density. Mod- CG

Sulfate-free Shampoo: SheaMoisture Curl and Shine shampoo with Epsom salts.
Co-wash: TRESemme Naturals,

Winter styler: KCCC, AIF, Beyond the Zone Noodlehead curling creme(not CG)
