Diffusing tips, routines?

Next wash...I think ill use my okra gel with some UFD on top next time..i only have couple oz sample i rec'd from kathymack...thus i have only used it a couple of times... I think its more like a jelly consistency. ..while KCCC is more like pudding...I like thick goopy products to help clump my hair...but at the same time it is harder to evenly distribute them... I guess its either defined with volume/frizz or clumps with little frizz/volume...hmm

I have low porosity and fine/med texture. Easily weighed down and VERY frizzy crown, with straighter under layers

Low-poo:TJ TTT, CJ GCS
LI/RO/DC: CK Satin Roots,Sevi Pumpkin, SSI Okra reconstructor, CJ SAC,CJ RM
Stylers: AG Recoil, JC SS
Jellies: CK Coil Jam, Okra gel(HG)

Hair loves moisture protein.
MUST Pixie diffuse.

My hair dose NOT like oils, butters or polyquats Or glycerin in high dews
I already did a bit of Meza's diffusing today (flipped a bit more since I normally just diffuse upside down, and now I also flipped to the sides) and it worked out better, but I did it with pixie diffusing because I'm afraid my hair will look too frizzy with all the movement, won't it?

(I am having very frizzy looking hair... always.. I think it are the dews here but I'm not sure since I don't know a lot about dews yet... My dews are in the low 40s now, which should be good, right? But is it also good if it's 80% humidity? it seems like it's almost always around 80% humidity here... is that really a lot? I wonder what my dews will give when summer arrives... pretty scared though...since it will be my first summer not straightening)

I kinda pixie when I use Meza's method, too, holding each section for a count of 10. It worked well.

Here are a couple of shots from this morning. It's frizzier now; hasn't held up as well as I'd like, but I think that's due to the crazy weather we're having: 60 one day, 82 the next.

I wish I had been smart enough to take a pic yesterday, so you could see the difference. What I learned from seeing these pics - one, I am WAY overdue for a cut. Hello, triangle head! And two, my grays are more unruly than I thought. Sheesh.

This experiment has been so fun, I may do it again tomorrow with different products again. Three times in one week would be a record for me!

But then I love big hair.
I think my next experiment will be to try for smooth waves so I can switch things up... I am going to try to wait til end of the week. But if keep coming here I will end up just like you Rustina, styling and restyling ever day LOL. Must. Stop. Obsessing.

I've been semi keeping up with this thread and thought I would chime in. I've tried something slightly different to avoid frizz when diffusing. Since I don't have a hooded drier (maybe one day), this is what I did before diffusing...after applying Stylers and such, with my head upright, I held my dryer over my hair (with diffuser attachment) and I slowly dried my hair from top to bottom (without touching my curls) for 5-10 minutes, just enough to set my hair. Then I began to pixie diffuse to about 85% dry. This give me less frizz than I've had before when just pixie diffusing. I've always tried to not move my hair around a lot when drying/diffusing since it causes some frizz. I just thought I would add this little trick that I learned. I hope that wasn't confusing.
So, essentially I tried to semi-duplicate the effect of a hooded dryer (since I don't have one), to set my curls before diffusing. This worked for me and maybe it will help someone else.

Yesterday I used a lot of leave in--my Curl Enhancing Smoothie since it almost acts like a gelly for me. I mean a lot. Maybe two quarters and a half's worth. For added hold. Granted this was in sopping wet hair and then I scrunch squeezed out all the water with an MF towel. Then maybe 2x more KCCC than I usually use to really coat the hair and set it. Then I actually bothered to clip my roots with the alligator clips. THEN I pixie diffused. For maybe seven minutes with my hair first down and then tossing (gently) all around so my curls would fall where they would but not during the diffusing. The result is the two best hair days I've had since going CG. My hair has natural volume already but it has more than usual without being huge and it is extra curly too. I got crazy crunch yesterday though. I was in a rush to scrunch it out so I could go grocery shopping. But so far I'm pretty happy. . .

Shelly, you're very sweet! I think your hair looks great in your pics, defined and soft looking. I wish my grays weren't so wiry - I didn't feel like it was frizzy yesterday when I styled, but it sure looks like it in the photos. I decided to give my hair a break today and not wash, but I'll try again tomorrow with my summer HG products (since the weather is so freakishly warm right now). I will report back after experiment #3!

Dusalocks, so glad you had success today! How do you pixie with clips in your hair? Don't the roots get wonky?

Curlsnswirls, I am intrigued by your method. I love the idea of reducing frizz, but I think if I diffused my hair without pixie-ing, I wouldn't get as much shrinkage as I would like. It might be worth another experiment, though!

OK round 2...tonight I used Aubrey blue chamomile moisturizing conditioner with some added NPF for different protein shot...I then applied UFD CM first...plopped few mins then scrunched in my okra gel via SS method....then scrunched with the wet flour sack towel and plopped with new one...left plopped appx 20mins...i then added another round of UFD and then diffused like Meza, not pixie....liking the results so far...UFD provided a better cast for my hair, which will hopefully equal less frizzy....Will see in the AM...fingers crossed...oh and UFD CM consistency is very different from KCCC...KCCC is definitely soft like pudding...while UFD CM is more like a gel consistency...both still thick, neither is thin....UFD CM definitely hardened/dried much faster then KCCC...My hair has a gel like cast and is crunchy...but I don't mind that, I actually like it...

So yeah it's only 2 inches down they start to really curl. But at least I had good volume. I took alligator clips and grabbed about 1/2 inch section of hair clipped parallel to the scalp, maybe at a slight diagonal angle, and pushed in toward my hair part. Then I took a second clip and secured the first by clipping it perpendicular (standing upright--horizontally) in the middle to secure the first clip. Then I'd cup any given section of curls and bring said section up to the clipped roots, mindful not to disturb them. Maybe held off an inch or so. But still the bump of my cupped curls towards the roots helped with the volume I think. Even when I dipped my head down they didn't come loose and I had 12 clips in my hair altogether. It was very pretty. Going for third day hair tomorrow as per usual as I will probably shower in the evening. We'll see if I can salvage the situation since my hair got a little big and boisterous after my workout this evening.

Ok, today my hair looks a lot better…More volume throughout and a lot less frizz.. Although my hair was pretty crunchy this morning, it ended up VERY soft after I SOTC...So am loving the UFD CM...Will try again next time just to make sure it was not a onetime wonder deal..My roots are pretty flat, not as voluminous… may need to figure out a new way to clip...Dusalocks did you watch a video on root clipping?. Not quite understanding what you said, I’m a visual person
