how do you ponytail?

Wow, it's been a while since I posted a thread! So I want to know about your ponytail technique, and I would love to see some pics . I'm at work right now so I don't have pics, but I will try to take some later.

So do most people do a high or low ponytail? Do you just throw it back, or do you comb the top part straight?

I can tell when I've been slacking on my protein, because my hair looks so blah in a ponytail. The top part will just straighten out when I pull it back. I usually go for a high pony, but when it gets longer I like a low pony with a side part from time to time.

My hair is pretty long (almost waist length when straight) and I don't like how my hair looks at all in a curly ponytail. I only wear a curly ponytail if Im going to be home but on the rare occasion that I do wear it to go somewhere, it's a high ponytail. I brush the front of my hair all into the ponytail so that its smooth and then slick down the strays with some gel. I get alot of shrinkage so the actual ponytail just ends up looking like a poof in the back of my head.
I do like wearing a ponytal when I straighten it though because I feel like the smoothness in front flows well with the smoothness of a long, straight ponytail in back. Hope that makes sense!
nobody has an interesting twists on the ponytail, huh? all i have is the same old boring one on my way to yoga. i was hoping for some inspiration.

i used to wear nothing but ponys. low ponys, high ponys, middle ponys, side ponys... lol.

now i mainly wear my curls loose. but my fave go-to lazy day style is the messy bun. i pineapple at night and in the morning i modify the pineapple into a bun by twisting the scrunchie once around as if tightening the ponytail but not quite pulling all the hairs through.

if i want to get fancy with it, i pull out some curls around the face. (pic is from valentine's day)

and actually, my new thing is two low ponys. you know, pigtails. sorry, no pics. i wear them loose or bunned (a la princess leia). it's fun and funky.

i hate how poofy my hair looks in a pony so i just do a messy bun
your pics look gorgoes i normally do a messy high bun. a tip to help with the fizz/puffyness, i always have a bit of oil on my hairs when im pulling my hair back. and somtimes put same on my ends as im pulling my curls through my elastic. somtimes i leave it in a pony sometimes i do a messy bun. if im going out or somthing ill leave my bangs out. its quick and easy and you can really see my curls

my hair: 3c, high porosity, high density and coarse hair (i think i finally figured that all out)
my hair loves conditioner only styling!
my hair goal length is bra strap length when curly.

I also blog about my hair journey, please feel free to read and comment/ask questions http://www.naturallycurly.com/blogs/...air-blogs/2494
Gah. I can't wait till I'm long enough for a pony again. It's getting long enough that I hate feeling it on my neck when I run! Maybe by the time it's 90...

I used to wear my hair up every single day (messy bun, high pony, low pony). Even when I wore my hair "down," I was constantly taking it in and out of a low pony in some odd attempt to control frizz haha. Then I got a job in the real world and decided I needed to learn to wear my hair down... and chopped it off to my chin.

Right now when I work out, I pull the top half up into one pony, and then do a second pony on the bottom. It's really not a good look.

My hair is currently too short for anything but a ponynub. When it was longer I found that my density (high) always pulled my fine hair waaay down and gives me what a friend called (pardon my French) "the b*tch ponytail/bun." So I learned a trick:

I gather up the bottom 2/3 of my hair with one elastic, usually a small clear "no tug" one, and put it into a ponytail at whatever height I like. I was raised in the 80's, so higher is better. Then I take the top 1/3 of my hair, the stuff around the crown and face, and sort of fluff it up to keep the curl, maybe add extra product at the roots for height, and use a second elastic to add that *loosely* to the whole ponytail. It can take some fiddling to hide the break, but it is worth it for a ponytail that doesn't look like someone is yanking my whole scalp back. If I want a bun, I then wrap the whole thing up, messy or tight.

Looking forward to having longer hair again...

Not on my own hair, it's too short ATM. But it can vary wildly, from "not skintight" around my face (what I like) to a Brigette Bardot poof! I got the idea from a friend, who is a MUA/hair guru. I said I love a bit of poof, but the lower half of my ponytail always drags it down. She said... just use two hair elastics. Ding!

A lot of women do the "poof" by teasing the crown and pinning that back, then making a single ponytail. I don't want a big ol' crown poof (my head is already kind of pointy), I want more volume evenly around my hairline, so I take that whole front hairline area and leave it out, then kind of tease/puff it gently like I'm making a poof, but instead of pinning it (I hate looking at the pins or rolling onto them in yoga!) I just use an elastic to anchor it to the pre-existing ponytail. I leave the top on kind of looser so it covers the "break." It's never pulled down by the lower one, so far!

On me it kind of winds up like this: http://www.weddingsalon.com/blog/wp-...ponytail2.jpeg

I just don't slick it down as much on the sides, either. If I tried to do this look with a single ponytail, the weight would instantly drag it down. So... two sections it is. The bottom one has to be very firmly anchored!

LOL, am I making sense? Glad this is helpful to people.

My hair is too short right now, but I love low loose romantic ponys. I don't like tight anything though. As a child it felt uncomfortable and my heart shape face looks better with a bit of volume in the frame. I'm not a high pony kind of girl. I'm just not that perky?

Like this, except I have a tighter curl pattern:

Oy, that's how I want my hair to look in a ponytail... Fine hair = no jumble of romantic curls...

Ooh, that's how I want my hair to look, too - except I need about 6 more inches of growth to get there!! I am suffering through the horrors of growing out my hair so that I can eventually have that low, long, romantic ponytail.

bosanbo, thank you for the link and for the explanation. I don't think I can use it now, as my hair is too short to ponytail like that (I get a pony puff instead, which I HATE), so I'm doing lots of twisted, messy buns for now. But I will definitely try your technique when I get enough length!!
