Reporting in..again.

Well much thanks to everyone. I have continued with my shampoo routine and have found that it may not matter much what conditioner I use as long as it does not have protein. So GVP is fine, and so is a Suave, for example.

Next: CurlyIndianGirl said layering does not work well for low porousity. Bingo, I get it! thats what has happened - frizz from too many products. So I made a choice - Curl Keeper. Today I mixed it with just a dab of LALSG, and I have a bit more hold, and maybe a bit more frizz. But, I have to say this: I like the feel of curl keeper on my hair. I may have to use more than I have been using, if I want to stick with one product. Its expensive but...cheaper than throwing useless products in the trash.

I'm having troubled hair times lately too, Myrna. (Not that yours looks bad from your avatar.) Maybe it's this stupid weather?

Myrna 03-27-2013 06:31 PM

Well, the seasons are changing. That probably means there is more moisture in the air but it is still cold. What that means for my coarse, low porousity hair is anyone's guess. I am in Wisconsin; where are you?

Jas76 03-27-2013 07:59 PM

Myrna, sounds like you are figuring things out!!

A word on CK - someone on here recommended to me to mix lube and a clear gel such as AIF, and probably a little water (if you aren't putting it on soaking wet hair) and it is a near dupe to CK. I can't compare since I've yet to try CK, but I can say I had good results from that combo! I mixed them right in my palm and then applied.

Just something to maybe experiment with on a weekend to see if it compares at all! Would certainly be a cheaper route to go!

Hi, Jas: I think someone here or on youtube compared the cost of lube with CK, and I am pretty sure it was a wash. I like the consistancy of CK, and that I can more in to my hair without worrying I am overdoing it. It is still too soft a hold for my hair, but I am adding more to see. I may also try it with Deva Foam, but that is 2 expensive styling products. I also have yet to try it with ReCoil.

Jas76 03-27-2013 10:10 PM

Really?? I found the watered lube and some drugstore gel was WAY cheaper. Plus no shipping!

I bought a 4oz tube of generic, and it was... $4? $5? I can't remember. Anyhow, I'm sure if you were using JUST lube that would probably be the case, however. But I found lube alone to not be as good as when I thinned it out and added some gel.

But if you love CK, then stick with it! It was just a suggestion to help with the cost.

Maybe you could try adding a little pea of gel to the CK and mix that in your hand? Perhaps that would give you the added hold? (Rather than layering the two?)

Glad you figured out Myrna!!Yay!Whoo whoo!!

I am working on this. This morning I was about to add some ReCoil - I have it and have not yet tried it - but I decided not to. For one, I have a hair appt today. For another, Recoil says it is great for days of high humidity. So, that means it might drag my hair down at t his time of year. Yes, adding a dab of gel into the CK may work well, but CurlyIndianGirl says that she could not get t hem to "mix" well, and had to layer. So, I will need to work on this, probably with Biotera gel, which has been so far the best gel for me. I am tempted to layer CK with the Deva Foam...

BTW, I got the LARGE size of CK, 33.8 oz, for $34.43 and free shipping. I think that was a good deal!

I'm in northeast ohio.

At first I blamed my diffuser. Then I blamed my shampoo. Then I blamed product. Now I think it's the cut, although this is the first and only cut from my current stylist to have failed.

Blah.

Myrna 03-28-2013 08:28 AM

I went through the same thing! thats what led me to research the properties of my hair. NOw I feel I understand better what it needs. So for you, it may not be any of these things - do you know your hair properties??

claudine19 03-28-2013 10:04 AM

Sort of: fine but lots of it, porous (gets wet easily), and um.....what are the others? I get overwhelmed by all the categories and sub-categories.

Myrna 03-28-2013 04:13 PM

yes it is pretty overwhelming. I think porousity andw whether hair is fine, medium or coarse. Mine is coarse and low porousity.

claudine19 03-28-2013 06:17 PM

I like how it looks in your avvie.

I think my guy did something to my layers, besides going a little short.

Today I resorted to hairspray. And Prell.

Myrna 03-28-2013 07:26 PM

Oh, no, Prell! not Prell!

This winter has been very difficult for my curls. I got a Deva cut hoping that would do the trick and went back to CG. Nothing has really worked to the point I am happy with. The only thing I have found along the way that I love is the Tresseme naturals conditioner. It really has helped me get moisture in my curls this winter. I find it works really well for a leave in to. I have gathered quite a stash of products the last few months in searching for the product that gives me great curls with no luck.

Myrna 03-29-2013 05:45 AM

I would first suggest you put up a separate post about this, you will get tons of help, support and suggestions. I have found that if all else fails, I do a cider vinegar rinse on my hair. I dont know why that works. I too like the TSN a lot and just went back to that because the GVP I think was overconditioning my hair. Post about this! people will see your post and help.

claudine19 03-29-2013 07:39 AM

I was provoked.

Myrna 03-29-2013 07:59 AM

LOL, I understand, I have done the same thing; hauled out my Aveda Shampoo Brilliant (has sulfates), and the Brilliant hairspray (has cones.) You will get it right. Is your stylist trained to cut curly hair?

claudine19 03-29-2013 08:31 AM

I don't know, actually. He has always given me fantastic cuts in the past. I'm just a wavy, though. Deva cuts are wasted on me (and a waste for me).

Myrna 04-01-2013 11:33 PM

WEll, you may be a wavy, but I always thought I was a wavy too - 2C. Now: no way. Of course, I also went through menopause, and that made my hair curlier, I think - or, maybe it was always curly but I did not know what to do with it.

Reporting in: I have been using CK and TSN conditioner. Very good results. I still feel I need a little something extra for a bit of crunch. Anyone?
