Hair parting

In general, are you supposed to part your hair WITH your hair whorl?

I had always parted my hair slightly to the left. A couple years ago, though, a stylist parted it to the right and we both really liked how it "laid". I think maybe going against it natural growth pattern gave it some volume.

Since she then cut my bangs (the first time I'd had any since the 7th grade), thy were cut to sweep to the left. But I've had far fewer "good bang days" than good hair days, and I am wondering if that might have something to do with it??

Now, if I go to my deva stylist and we decide it's a good idea to switch that, I'm wondering if fixing my bangs to go the opposite way (the "right" way, so to speak) would be more complicated than just combing them that direction??

I think it depends on the cut. If you are looking to switch your bangs from side to side as the spirit moves you, make sure your stylist knows that so she can cut them to blend properly on both sides. I will say that my hair definitely looks better when the front of my hair is parted on the right instead of the left. For years I had the part over my left eyebrow, but I was mostly wearing it straight then and it didn't matter. I kept that part for a couple of months after going CG, but then decided one day to part it on the other side, mostly because I had decided to let my gray grow out and I had less of a skunk stripe with the part over my right eyebrow, lol! Since then, I've realized that my hair curls in basically one direction around my head - the hair on the left side curls away from my face, and the hair on the right side curls into my face. So parting over my right eyebrow works with that pattern instead of against it, and I get good volume in the front and no wonky pieces.

I have no idea if I answered your question, but I hope that helps! :-)

years ago i would switch the part from left to right, right to left, whenever i felt my hair needed it. since i've been cg, tho, i've kept it parted on the right side, sweeping over to the left. i do change where the part is, sometimes slightly more than off-center and other times more dramatically parted to the right. as rustina said, my hair also curls away from my face on the left and comes around to my face on the right, so i'm thinking it's the way it curls on my head that make it seem this is the way that works best for my hair.

you should have fun with your hair and try different things. just try switching the side part on your own and see how it goes. if it looks good, then wear it that way and tell your stylist you wanted it parted that way.

Thanks for the responses!

I guess for me I ALWAYS parted on the left, I think because I was told to that's the way my hair was "meant" to part.

Now my hair (or at least my bangs) are cut to go that way. So it's hard to test the left side part out, you know?

Idk. I guess I'll break down and go see a stylist and ask her these questions. I thought perhaps someone might know if you were "supposed" to part with your hair whorl, or if it didn't matter once your hair got to be a certain length. (I know with my sons they "have" to part on the left and go to the right bc of their whorls)

Thanks again!

This may sound really dumb, but I part my hair based on where my outlet is in the bathroom...it's over to the left side of the mirror, so it's easier to dry the left side of my hair. So I always part my hair on the right so more of my hair falls over on the left side. My stylist was like  when I told her that...

LOL!! Well, that's as good a reason as any, I suppose, if your hair could part either way! ;)
