Default FSG humectant or anti-humectant?

I'm really interested in making my first batch, but if it's a humectant maybe I won't bother. Does anyone know of its humectant vs. anti-humectant properties? Thanks!

Ok well I made my first batch anyway. I guess the jury's still out because I don't know its chemical properties. From what I can tell, the definition I'm getting is nice but it leaves a lot to be desired in terms of frizz-control. Glycerine acts similarly in my hair in high dews, although I don't get as much frizz w/ FSG.

Well I like the FSG... it doesn't feel product-y in my hair but I am getting some definition so I'll keep playing. But I'll have to figure out how to seal properly or what to add to reduce frizz. The frizzies have been brutal lately.

I'm not 100% certain...but I think neither? Flaxseeds are high in protein and good fats...I'm not sure how much of its properties carry over to the gel but probably just a fraction. I'd assume that the gel contains a bit of protein and maybe soothes the hair depending on how much fatty acids make it in the gel.

I figured a lot of the omega-3's in the seeds themselves would be present in the gel, but I didn't think about the protein. Good catch! I wonder if protein-sensitive curlies have any issues with it.

FSG question

FSG with more hold?

I also found these threads. I would love any extra info or science-y explanations if anyone has anything to add.

It's the only reason why I haven't been moved to try it, lol. I don't use gel but since I use flaxseeds in my cooking, I can make a small batch at any point but...I don't think my hair will like it. I suppose I can try though...hmm.

Well it doesn't hurt to try, especially if it's easy and cheap!

I add some BRHG to my FSG. It makes the FSG thicker and it does make it more medium hold. Controls frizz really good for me. I also add a little water to thin it down a bit if i need to. I only mix enough for 3 days at a time.

I will try this once I finally get my hands on BRHG. Thanks for the suggestion!
