CJ CCCL + CJ CQ question

I've been using CJ CQ and discovered that my supposedly coarse hair did not turn into straw even though this really is a protein bomb. I've also been using CJ Beauticurls Argan and Olive Oil and discovered that it makes my hair really soft but also limp and overconditioned. I continue using the latter until I've finished the bottle, but I have to make my styling work though.

So it turns out my hair is fine and probably likes protein. It soaks in CQ like crazy but I have to use quite a lot to get some added curl definition. That's why I ordered CJ CCCL and I have to say, I love the smell and the feel of the cream! I always used creams before so I had high expectations.

However, it still is quite a moisturising cream and I think I'm using it the wrong way. Right now, I spray my hair with water until soaking wet. Then I squeeze out some excess water, use a really small amount of CCCL and rake that through my hair very easily. I plop and after the plopping I scrunch in some CQ. Results are great when it's still damp but crap when it's dry. Not so much definition, just major frizz reduction (but frizz is not really a problem for me).

Now I'm thinking that perhaps my hair can't soak up the proteins because there is so much moisture. I know most people say you should use a gel over a cream but I'm thinking of first applying CQ on soaking wet hair, plopping, then finishing it off with some CCCL to get soft curls that are not producty. This way, I think, my hair soaks up the protein to get some more curl definition and also stays soft and nice.

maybe ccccl is not for you?
why don't you go to the selection guide on the curl junkie website and see what is recommended? there are also more ideas if you scroll down on that page to different situations.

my hair does not like cq, but my daughter uses it daily. she uses cj beauticurls leave in mostly. other day will use the strengthening conditioner as her leave in.

I've got it yesterday and I think I just have to find out what works for me. I'm suspecting my conditioner is the problem but it was too expensive to not use the entire bottle. I'll check the CJ website again though!

Just a thought, if something isn't working out for you, you can always try and swap it for something else on the swap boards.

Don't feel like you need to use a whole bottle of anything!

Where are you from? There is a Canadian, Australian & European Swap Board. If any of those won't work, just make sure your title has the words "International Swap" in it. Some people won't mind filling out a customs form and paying a little extra to ship your item to you. However, I wouldn't expect an "equal" swap because of the higher shipping cost.

It doesn't matter at all how full the bottle is, just make sure you are accurate in telling us how much you have left. A Picture says a 1000 words, lol. I've been told that there was about 90% of a product remaining when it was safe to say about 75% was left, when I should have asked for a picture! So Just be honest!

Thanks, that's a very useful reply! I'm from the Netherlands so I just might check the European board :-)

I think pictures are very important, too. I don't think I would swap without pictures, haha.

I'm going to try CCCL on its own and I just might see what happens when my hair is not overconditioned.

Update!

Today, I simply sprayed some water on my hair until it was thoroughly wet. Then I scrunched out the excess water first with my hands, then with a cotton t-shirt. When it wasn't dripping anymore, I put a really small amount of CJ CCCL on my hand, rubbed my hands together, then scrunched it in my curls. So far it seems to work way better. Curl formation has improved (I even have got one huge ringlet!), no frizz and I barely had to SOTC.

I'll have to see what it looks like by the end of the day but so far major improvement compared to previous days. I do miss the shine I get from CQ but perhaps I should see how my hair responds to CCCL alone for the upcoming few days.

So does the cccl give you enough hold on its own?

I've been trying to give curl queen multiple chances but I just don't like the feel of my hair when I do. Maybe I'm using too much of it? Maybe my hair doesn't like the protein in it?

CJ CCCL does give enough hold on its own when I've just applied it, but after a relatively short while, it slowly loses it's hold. I'm really thinking this is because of my constantly overconditioned hair. I was so frustrated today that I just got out of the shower. Cleansed my hair, then did the gelatine PT (which was a fail last time - at least applying it was a success but I have no idea what the final results will be) and then applied CJ CCCL. I'm just baffled that I can definitely see more curl definition happening as I apply the cream. Perhaps I still use a little too much and it weighs down because of that?

I'm still not sure what to think about CQ. My hair doesn't feel like straw, nor does it become particularly frizzy so I'm pretty sure the protein in it don't bother me, but it doesn't have enough hold for me. I'm a 2c but I know my curls can look much curlier with the right product.
