Favorite gel for wavy/fine hair

Like Tree6Likes

Hello everyone. My deva stylist introduced me to Deva ArcAngel. I really like my curls with that gel, but since it is so expensive, I thought I would try some other gels. Can you tell me what you use and where you got it?

I have tried HETT. I tried it a couple of times last week and thought I had good results except on top. So I thought I would try HESMU for more control. I may have used too much but my hair was very stiff. When I scrunched out the crunch, it didn't have the volume or curl it did with ArcAngel.

I will try HETT again tomorrow to see if I like it. But in the meantime, I thought I would see if any of you had luck with Deva ArcAngel and what you found that was similiar but less expensive.

thanks!
I have tried Deva ArcAngel too when I started out, But eventually I moved on to LA sports gel(Blue bottle) I have 2c/3a curls and it gives me good hold with out being stiff.

I like KCCC, which is more of a jelly, topped with Garnier Pure and Clean Gel. I'm also playing around with Botanical Spirits Stretch Curls Gelee and their Puree, and all of them, combined with a top coat of Garnier, work well for me. It feels like the lighter jelly-type products help define my curls, and then the Garnier "locks" it in, so my fine-but-dense hair doesn't pull itself out from gravity.

Thanks for the recommendation for LA Sports gel. Is that a firm or light firm?
Hi Bosbo. I haven't gotten to the point of mixing gels yet! I am still trying to figure out how to make CG work for me. I had some good days and a lot of bad days.

I have discovered though that using the right gel makes a huge difference. Not enough hold - my hair had no curl. Too much hold like today and it looks wet and stringy.

I haven't decided yet if waiting 10 minutes before I apply gel works better for me. My hair is wavy more than curly.

I would love to hear everyone's recommendation on gels and if anyone has luck waiting to apply it (like recommended by the CG method.)
I use whatever jelly I'm playing with in the shower, after my rinse-out. I squish it in and then do a quick cool rinse to distribute it more evenly. Then I shake my head back and forth like crazy, still upside-down. This makes my clumps/curls. I get out of the shower and use a loose flour sack turban (better than plopping, for me) for 5-10 minutes. So yes, I wait a bit. I have low porosity hair and I think this lets some of the water get "out," so some product can get "in."

Then I gently let my hair and use the Garnier to "set" those curls by palm-scrunching (just a gentle squeeze, not smashing the curl in any way). Technique is everything, for my hair.

So I don't actually mix them together. As to your other question, the Garnier gel seems to have the right hold for my hair. Their site calls it "extra strong" but it's a lot less stiff/crunchy than other gels I've tried.

I also scrunch out the crunch once it is dry, for sure. Again, very gentle, not running my fingers all around. I've recently started using a small amount of a more moisturizing product to do this. It makes my hair soft and bouncy, but I'm still trying to decide if it helps the definition or makes it too fluffy.

Sounds pretty, Bo. I will have to try that. Plopping seems to flatten my top and make the curls stringer. I, too, like soft bouncy curls.
Thanks - I hope it looks as pretty! I like it, at least.

Plopping doesn't work for me. I think my hair is too fine, but it's also chin-length, so it may just be too short. I find the loose turban gives me more volume at the roots, since I'm "training" my damp hair upwards for a bit. I make sure to twist in the same direction as my spiral of growth, not against. That doesn't work well on me!

Do any of you use Tresemme's Coconut Conditioner?
LA looks nutra curl. It's an 8/10 on the hold scale. So till strong, but not overly. Plus it smells good

FSG...I absolutely love it! I'm sure that I will need a little something extra to layer over it for the upcoming summer humidity, but it's definitely worth a shot in my opinion. I want to try KCCC soon as well!

You don't get it, you get alsi/flax seeds and put a pot on the stove and put the seeds in, thenin the end its gel! Kind of slimy but it works you can add avg or another thing is optional to add after. You can search for more info.

FSG= Flaxseed Gel. It's a home made gel. There are also a lot of different things you can add to it depending on what your hair likes. There are recipe threads for it on here, I'm sure they would come up in the search FSG is pretty popular around here and very few curlies seem to dislike it. Some use it underneath a harder-hold gel for extra definition.

The great thing about FSG is you can customize it with goodies depending of time of the year...so in the winter you might want some glycerin with oils...while in spring summer maybe oil with more agave nectar/honey for hold...these are just general ideas and maybe not be accurate… I myself cannot use FSG, its just sits on top of my hair, and it clumps my hair so well…that I have medusa hair…not my thing…so I use okra gel instead..its actually BB’s styling mudd...its an AWESOME product for my fine hair...it gives me shine, with clumps, and awesome volume...I still have some frizz...but ill take that for the volume...you can customize it any way you want… and I have her tweak the ingredients based on what I think my hair needs at that time…that’s a wonderful thing…But there are several great posts on NC for making your own FSG…you could just do a general search and read some of the posts…. and see what others with similar hair properties use…

I ordered BBs Mudd almost 3 weeks ago...still waiting patiently for it to arrive! I ordered the "fool proof" one.

Do you top with a gel or does it have decent hold?
